The tragedy of Ohara is about to repeat in One Piece, with the World Government set to destroy Egghead to erase all traces of Vegapunk’s research.
Warning: SPOILERS for chapter #1078 of One PieceThe greatest tragedy in the history of One Piece, the “Ohara incident“, is about to repeat on Egghead Island. Just like when they exterminated an entire country of peaceful people, the World Government is about to erase Egghead from the maps to erase all traces of Dr. Vegapunk’s forbidden research.
Chapter #1078 of One Piece reveals the true intentions of the World Government concerning Dr. Vegapunk and his research compound, Egghead Island. In previous chapters, the Five Elders dispatched the CP0 assassins to kill Vegapunk, but even that is not enough. The scientist has committed the most heinous crime in the eyes of the World Government, continuing the research on the Void Century and the Great Kingdom that started in Ohara, meaning that all traces of his work have to be erased, just like it happened with the archeologists of Ohara years before.
The Tragedy Of Ohara Is About To Repeat On Egghead Island
The history of the infamous Ohara incident was revealed during Nico Robin’s tragic flashback. Ohara was an island of researchers that housed the largest library in the world. The Ohara historians wanted to unveil the biggest mystery of the world, the truth about the Void Century, one hundred years that the World Government erased from history, forbidding any type of research into that. After the work done on Ohara was discovered, the Five Elders ordered a Buster Call, dispatching a fleet of Marine battleships that burned the island to the ground, killing all of its inhabitants except for Robin and (possibly) the renegade Marine Jaguar D. Saul. The history of this tragic genocide is now about to repeat itself.
According to Stussy, Vegapunk’s secret ally inside CP0, the World Government believes that Egghead is even more dangerous than Ohara, due to Vegapunk’s genius and the military power granted by his inventions (including the Pacifista soldiers). For these reasons, they dispatched an overwhelming force to solve the problem, including Marine Admiral Kizaru and even one of the Five Elders themselves, Jaygarcia Saturn. Sentomaru, Vegapunk’s bodyguard and a Marine himself, agrees and immediately orders all the inhabitants of Egghead to evacuate, aware that the island will be soon leveled to the ground. This decision proves just how much the Five Elders are afraid of the secrets hidden in the Void Century. Vegapunk was their best scientific asset, who created advanced weapons such as the unbeatable Seraphim.
The Egghead Incident Will Have Huge Consequences
Killing Vegapunk is thus a truly extreme measure, spurred by the betrayal of York, who leaked Vegapunk’s forbidden research to the Five Elders. The Ohara incident has a special meaning for One Piece. It represents the inhumane cruelty of the true villains of the story, the World Government, and also the power of the core mysteries of the series: the Void Century, the Poneglyphs, and the Great Kingdom. The “Egghead incident” will be even more important and consequential than what happened in Ohara, as chapter #1078 teases that the consequences of what is about to happen to Egghead will shock the world of One Piece to its core.
