Janusz Michallik says he could see Mikel Arteta ‘liking the project’ of signing ex-Chelsea star and current Real Madrid forward, Eden Hazard, during the January transfer window for Arsenal.
Whilst the former USA international thinks it’s ‘highly unlikely’ a deal will happen, he still backed the idea and pointed towards when Hazard was ‘unplayable’ in the Premier League.
Those days are long gone for the 32-year-old, who since his big-money transfer to Real Madrid in 2019, has been plagued by injuries.
It has resulted in the forward’s career stagnating, going backwards and now he is at a point in his career where he is no longer wanted by those at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Despite that, surprise rumours have emerged that table-topping Arsenal are keen on signing Hazard – his current deal at the European champions expires in 2024.
Whilst Mykhailo Mudryk is the man Arsenal fans want, this is what Michallik had to say about Hazard possibly returning to London in what would be a shock move.
“Would he be coming for almost free,” asked Michallik. “Real Madrid would be really happy to get rid of him rather cheaply.
“Part of me thinks if there was a coach (who could get the best out of him), then Mikel Arteta. I mean, he was the best in the Premier League once or twice.
“It’s highly unlikely, but Mikel Arteta strikes me as a manager that would like this project. To see if he can revive what we saw once in Eden Hazard. Remember there was a season when he was unplayable in the Premier League.”
HAZARD A BIG NO-NO
At the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Hazard showcased where he is at in his career and that’s at very low levels.
It’s a crying shame because, at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he was perhaps the best player at the tournament, yet in the Middle East, he struggled as Belgium were booted out of the group stages.
He has since retired from international duty, which is perhaps another indication that his body and physical shape is no longer where it once used to be.
Arsenal need players to come in and perform right now, not someone whose career is at an unfortunate end.
