Manchester United can sign Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan this month, but for nothing less than €60 million (£52m).
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport (print edition January 10, page 4), who claim that Inter would prefer to sell the 26-year-old in the summer.
United manager Erik ten Hag wants to bolster his right-back ranks at Old Trafford this month, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka facing an uncertain future at the club.
Dumfries has been on United’s radar for quite some time now. However, it seems the Red Devils will not be able to sign him in January unless they splash some serious cash.
Manchester United must pay €60 million for Denzel Dumfries
United will have to break the bank if they want to sign the 42-capped Netherlands international in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils may need to wait until the summer when he will have just two years remaining on his contract with Inter.
Dumfries is a sensational defender and would provide proper competition for Diogo Dalot at Old Trafford.
Described as an explosive right-back by the Chronicle, he has all the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League. He is physically strong, possesses impressive pace and contributes at both ends of the pitch.
Dumfries proved his quality on the world’s biggest stage in Qatar, and it’s clear to see that he would take United to another level entirely.
However, it’s hard to envisage a scenario whereby United would pay £52m to sign the Dutchman this month, with the powers that be at Old Trafford thought to be tightening the purse strings.

Manchester United star Raphael Varane was instrumental in Casemiro’s move to Old Trafford by championing a move for his former Real Madrid team-mate.
The Brazilian joined the Red Devils in August for a fee of £60m, which raised eyebrows given he’s 30-year-old and would command wages of around £200,000-a-week on a five-year deal.
United’s move for Casemiro was rather sudden as the club had spent the entire summer focused on signing Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong.
However, they had already sought out Casemiro to ascertain if he’d be keen on a move to the Theatre of Dreams and United’s interest was stronger than simply panicking after two defeats in their opening two league games.

Nevertheless, there was still doubt over the Brazilian’s motive to join the club. He had won five Champions League trophies in the Spanish capital and was still a vital part of Carlo Ancelotti’s side. United, by contrast, haven’t won a trophy in five years.
That saw Erik ten Hag seek out Varane, who spent seven years playing alongside Casemiro at the Bernabeu.
According to the Athletic, Varane gave a glowing reference of Casemiro’s character and his leadership skills, while he gave assurances that the Brazilian is not the type of player to seek an ‘easy pay day’.
Casemiro has certainly quashed any idea he joined the club to down tools, with the Brazilian proving one of United’s sharpest acquisitions in years.
After a chaotic transfer window, Ten Hag’s decisions have been vindicated with Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Antony all proving successes so far.
