At first, seeing a dead chicken at a stop sign at the intersection of Southwest 21st Street and Southwest 7th Place in Cape Coral was just weird.
“The first time I saw one, I thought someone had hit it with a vehicle,” said Stanley Krause.
Then the next month passed. The rooster, which was eventually removed from the stop sign, was replaced by another.
“Then you look closer at the situation, and you realize it’s on purpose,” said Krause. “Someone did it purposely.”
Stanley Krause says he walks along the road daily for exercise and is not the only one.
“I haven’t personally seen the chickens, but just hearing that makes me think of witchcraft,” said David Zorn.
Each neighbor has their own theories.
“It could be a prank,” said Marlene Burt. “It could be someone doing it for religious purposes.”
“It could be chicken fighting, and then they are just dropping them by the road,” said Krause.
“I think it’s just a joke from someone,” said Zorn. “I hope it’s not something serious.”
Neighbors think the person or people responsible are dropping off the dead chickens at night and haven’t gotten caught doing it yet.
