After 2 years of excavating Saqqara – an archaeological site in Giza, 32 km south of Cairo, researchers have recently discovered a series of pyramids with the identity of the mysterious queen. These new tombs and pyramids belonged to some of the closest generals and advisors of the pharaoh Tut during his reign. At the same time, scientists also found a huge limestone coffin and “300 beautiful coffins from the New Kingdom period”.
More surprisingly, after all these centuries, the mummies preserved in these coffins are still in the Thai camp intact. One of the most remarkable mummies belongs to a mysterious woman lying in a coffin with a mask made entirely of solid gold.
Archaeologists also discovered a pyramid commemorating an unknown queen. After investigation, they determined that this was Neith – a queen that has never been recorded in history.
A collection of coffins and antiquities found at the excavation sites will be on display at the Grand Egypt Museum in Giza. This museum is expected to open next year.
