Manchester United are pushing to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot on a free transfer this summer, according to French outlet L’Equipe.
The Red Devils were heavily interested in landing the France international last summer and talks were held between Rabiot and manager Erik ten Hag.
The Bianconeri also agreed on a transfer fee for the World Cup finalist but United could not finalise personal terms with his mother and agent Veronique.
Rabiot has since enjoyed a superb season with the Turin giants with 11 goals and four assists from 43 outings and United are now planning a fresh move.
The 28-year-old is currently allowed to discuss personal terms with foreign clubs with his contract expiring in June. United are reportedly ‘pushing’ to sign him.
L’Equipe claim that the Frenchman is an ‘important target’ for Ten Hag. The Dutch tactician also wants to pursue the services of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.
Man Utd could sign Rabiot on a free transfer
Rabiot was high on Ten Hag’s shortlist at the beginning of the season. However, the board refused to meet the player’s salary demands of around €10 million per year.
It appears the club have now revived their interest in his services. The opportunity to land him on a Bosman deal looks more convenient for the Red Devils’ hierarchy.
Rabiot had an unconvincing 2021/22 season with the Bianconeri but he has transformed his fortunes this term with an impressive 15 goal contributions in all competitions.
Meanwhile, he has been more than decent with his distribution. He has completed 83 per cent of his passes while winning a stunning two tackles and 5.7 duels per game.
Rabiot does not fall into the world-class pedigree of midfielders but does his work credibly. He would be a solid signing for United and could be used in regular rotation by Ten Hag.
