Lionel Messi is one of the richest sports stars in the world and his huge personal wealth could soon sky-rocket even further.
Lionel Messi has been offered a staggering new contract offer which could take his personal wealth close to the £1billion mark, according to reports. The Argentine superstar looks set to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer and he has attracted offers from Saudi Arabia and the MLS, with Al-Hilal said to be offering enough that could even enable the World Cup winner to join the takeover bidding for Manchester United.
The 35-year-old will have his pick of clubs to join this summer, although an emotional return to former club Barcelona looks increasingly unlikely due to the La Liga club’s necessity to raise around £250m through player sales and trimming their wage bill.
The player’s father, Jorge Messi, recently denied reports that a deal had been agreed with the Saudi Pro League outfit when he travelled to the Arabian Gulf as part of his sponsorship deal with the nation’s tourism board – a decision that saw him fined and suspended by PSG.
It was reported at the time that Al-Hilal were willing to essentially hand Messi a blank cheque with an offer worth £350m-a-year, making him the richest sports athlete in history.
