Margot Robbie’s summer wardrobe offers 8 valuable style lessons that we can incorporate into our own fashion choices.

Margot Robbie, the Australian actress and producer, is on something of a global fashion tour, as she promotes her most recent role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood.

The looks concocted by Robbie and her stylist and right-hand-woman Kate Young, have not disappointed; from a wafty Jacquemus maxi dress in Berlin, to a a fire-colour Oscar de la Renta gown in London, the duo have upped the ante at every new location.

She’s needed summer looks for the red carpet, as well as day outfits for press conferences, so there is inspiration aplenty to be taken away.

Margot can do no wrong, sartorially speaking, right now and we want to learn her ways. Here are the looks we are taking notes from…

Lesson 1 – Don’t be scared of volume

This Jacquemus dress is experimental for Margot as she typically favours silhouettes that are cut closer to the body. The French, boho-inspired piece makes a great change and shows that sometimes bigger really is better. Wearing voluminous shapes in the summer can be incredibly cooling; the key is to look for a dress that fits tighter in one place – in this case the chest – in order to balance your shape and ensure that you are not drowning in fabric.

Although we are not talking about the pyjamas you slept in last night, Margot proves that slumber-inspired evening looks can look incredibly chic. Opt for patterned PJs and treat them like a co-ord suit, or, if choosing a plain style, use accessories to amp up the glamour.

Lesson 3 – ‘Jeans and a nice top’ is still a winning combination

In theory, this simple top and jeans combination should look outdated, as it’s the oldest styling trick in the book. But Margot’s choice to update the formula using a head-to-toe neutral colour palette elevates this typically-boring ensemble, to something very effective. Try white jeans with other shades of beige and cream for a look that’s right for summer and right on trend.

Lesson 4 – Match your make-up to your dress

Why not up the ante with your make-up, especially if on holiday? Notice how Margot’s eyelids perfectly mirror the burnt orange hue of her Oscar de la Renta dress, whilst the rest of her beauty look is muted. Follow suit and let the eyes do the talking.

Lesson 5 – Butter is the new beige

There is always a must-wear colour of the season and, for summer 2019, it’s butter. A favourite by designers Molly Goddard, Lemaire and Jil Sander at their Autumn/Winter 2019 shows, the newly admired shade of cream, wax yellow or if you prefer off-lemon, is will see you through August and into September.

Lesson 6 – Keep it chic at the airport

As celebrity airport style goes, this outfit which Margot wore earlier in the summer is a safe, yet great, option. The easy slip-on leather loafers are practical for an inevitable dressing down at security, yet the blouse looks smart and ready to go out to lunch as soon as you land. The raw-edged jeans in a light wash complete the overall smart-casual effect.

Lesson 7 – White dresses don’t have to look bridal

At the Los Angeles premiere of Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood on 22nd July, Margot floated along the red carpet in an ethereal white Chanel dress. If there was one thing that it wasn’t, though, it was bridal. Find more tips on how to wear summer’s white dress trend, here.

Lesson 8 – Double denim can look luxe, not tacky

Pictured in Los Angeles earlier this summer, Margot put a new spin on a relaxed double denim look. Wearing contrasting denim washes (and a sparkly Chanel cross-body bag) gave the whole outfit a luxe twist and it is perhaps one of the easiest tricks to try at home.
