Chris Hemsworth returns as the God of Thunder as he takes on Brett Goldstein’s Marvel Cinematic Universe character Hercules in a Thor 5 fan trailer.
A new Thor 5 fan trailer sees Chris Hemsworth battle Brett Goldstein’s Marvel Cinematic Universe character, Hercules. One of the remaining original Avengers in the MCU is Thor, as Hemsworth returned for Thor: Love and Thunder, once again with director Taika Waititi. Even though Thor: Love and Thunder was a mixed bag critically, the film ended with a setup for a potentially massive story for the God of Thunder as Goldstein was introduced as the MCU’s Hercules.
It has almost been a year since Thor: Love and Thunder was released in theaters, and it’s still unclear where the Hercules setup is going. However, Screen Culture recently debuted a Thor 5 fan trailer to give an idea of what a war between Thor and Hercules could look like in the MCU.
Titled Thor: Legend of Hercules, the potential sequel deals with the aftermath of Thor: Love and Thunder after Hemsworth’s titular hero created a conflict with Zeus. The concept for Thor 5 is framed as a possible final outing for Hemsworth as the beloved Avenger.
Everything We Know About Thor 5
While Thor: Love and Thunder was a commercial success, Marvel Studios have been tight-lipped when it comes to the state of Thor 5 as there hasn’t been a formal greenlight for a sequel. Even though the latest installment ended with “Thor will return,” that could easily be referring to Hemsworth showing up in other Phase 5 and 6 movies. It would almost be shocking if Thor didn’t appear in either Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars.
Previously, Hemsworth had stated that he was open to doing Thor 5, but the Australian actor has also expressed that whatever his next appearance ends up being, he would like for it to be the last one. With someone as powerful as Hercules, he would be the type of antagonist that could fit Hemsworth’s Thor 5 idea of what he would want to see as a story, as he wants a “drastically different tone” from Thor: Love and Thunder. Even Waititi seems to have different ideas from Hemsworth in what he would want to do if he directed Thor 5.
It’s imperative to remember that after learning he has a higher chance of developing Alzheimer’s disease, Hemsworth has been open about the possibility that he’ll be taking on fewer projects. That could potentially mean that he may not be back as Thor for the foreseeable future as his health, for absolutely understandable reasons, comes first. Time will tell if Thor 5 will ever happen or if Hemsworth will at least be back in the MCU in either Phase 5 or 6 in some capacity.
