Playing Hermione Granger was the first huge role in Emma Watson’s life, and surprisingly, her first role became the one people remember her the most for. It shot Watson to high levels of success that many people can only dream of. In an interview with Vogue, Watson got candid about the fame she received through these films and how she feels guilty about the whole situation.
“It’s so bizarre and otherworldly what happened to me. That’s something I’ve sat in therapy and felt really guilty about, to be honest. Like, ‘Why me?’ Somebody else would have enjoyed and wanted this aspect of it more than I did. I’ve wrestled a lot with the guilt around that. Of being, like, ‘I should be enjoying this more. I should be more excited.’ And I’m actually really struggling.”
In order to deal with the fame, Watson has built boundaries that allow her to keep her private life private. And to do that, she doesn’t let her fans take pictures with her, except for children. Although, she is always up for a chat!

The moment Watson realized just how famous she had gotten through Harry Potter was when she was in the South-Asian country, Bangladesh. While most celebrities would be over the moon to see how famous they have become, it was not the case with Watson. According to Global Grind, Watson stated,
“It was when I was in a shanty town in Bangladesh and a boy stopped me on the street and said, ‘You’re the girl from Harry Potter’ and there’s nowhere in the world I can go almost it feels that isn’t somehow touched by this film franchise. It reaches the farthest, farthest corners of the Earth where you’d least expect places. I was like, ‘Wow I really can’t go anywhere.’”
Don’t get her wrong though. Emma Watson feels pretty fortunate about the fame and love she has gotten. She stated that she never knew what total freedom was in the first place, adding,
“It’s something I grew up knowing and a process that happened gradually. I haven’t had anything else, and in a way, I guess that’s a blessing.”
It has been over two decades since the world got to meet Watson’s Hermione Granger. Since then, while she has been in movies like Beauty and the Beast, Little Women, and Perks of Being a Wallflower, she is still known best for Hermione.
