Chelsea are unlikely to stand in the way of Thiago Silva if the Brazilian informs the club that he wishes to make an emotional return to Fluminense this summer.
Thiago Silva has another year to run on his Chelsea deal, but he could leave as soon as this summer to move back to Brazil according to a story in the Telegraph today.
Matt Law writes that Chelsea are “unlikely” to stand in Silva’s way if he decides he wants to have a final chapter back with Fluminense.
Silva has been superb in his time at Chelsea, and fans would be keen for him to stay on, but equally at 38 he’s not a player we can rely on for the future, and it may be best to pull off the plaster now and deal with his absence in what is sure to be a transition year.
It’s a rather strange way of phrasing it – why would this even be a news story if Silva wasn’t considering it? He has said before he would like to finish his career at Fluminense, but we doubt this story would have been written without some level of inside information that such a move was on the cards.
