“what did Joe do that made Blake, Austin, Ryan and Haim sisters unfollow him????”
By now, I’m sure you’ve heard that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have parted ways after more than six years together.
ET Online broke the news of their split early last month, with an insider saying that things were completely amicable between the pair and that “the relationship had just run its course.”
It was later reported by People that Joe and Taylor’s split was triggered by the “differences in their personalities,” with a source claiming that he struggled with her intense “level of fame and attention from the public.”
While it remains unclear exactly what — if anything at all — went down between Taylor and Joe, the news of their split ultimately led fans to begin speculating that her latest album, Midnights, is actually a breakup album charting the demise of the relationship.
And speculation that the split was actually pretty messy has only been fueled further by some ~interesting~ recent Instagram activity from Taylor’s nearest and dearest.
Shortly after the news of the split surfaced, eagle-eyed internet users noticed that Taylor’s longtime close friends Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively had apparently unfollowed Joe on Instagram.
For some quick context, Taylor, Ryan, and Blake have been super close for years. Not only did Blake memorably direct the music video for Taylor’s hit song “I Bet You Think About Me” in 2021, but Taylor has repeatedly honored the couple’s children in her music.
And while Joe and Taylor were together, Blake and Ryan were super close with him, too.
In fact, just last year, Ryan penned a super sweet tribute toward Joe for the 2022 Time100 Next list.
“I’ve known Joe Alwyn for six years — and that’s long enough to see someone’s heart,” Ryan wrote. “Long enough to know whether or not they’re made of good stuff. And Joe Alwyn is made of good stuff.”
But now, fans have noticed that Ryan and Blake’s Instagram accounts are no longer following Joe — who hasn’t posted anything to his page in almost a year. Meanwhile, Joe is still following Ryan on the platform.
And interestingly, this apparently came a day after Ryan, Blake, and Taylor went out to dinner in New York.
According to an unverified report by celebrity gossip site DeuxMoi and several unverified fan tweets, the trio was spotted dining at Casa Cipriani just hours before Ryan and Blake apparently unfollowed Joe.
Needless to say, fans had several thoughts on the entire thing.
“I know it’s none of our business but i really wanna know what taylor, blake and ryan talked about in that dinner that made ryan unfollow joe,” one person tweeted.
“if taylor, blake, and ryan were having dinner last night and ryan unfollowed joe right after, that means mother has been spilling tea,” someone else wrote.
But what’s more, fans later discovered that it wasn’t just Blake and Ryan who’d unfollowed Joe. Taylor’s brother, Austin Swift, had also hit the unfollow button by Joe’s name, as well as all three of the Haim sisters, who’ve been close friends with Taylor for years.
As of right now, Joe is still following Austin and the Haim sisters — Este, Danielle, and Alana — on Instagram.
“what did Joe do that made Blake, Austin, Ryan and Haim sisters unfollow him????” someone tweeted, seemingly speculating about his split from Taylor.
“I didn’t think of Austin unfollowing joe as anything bad because he’s her brother and he can be shady to defend Taylor lol but HAIM *collectively* unfollowing him and Ryan Reynolds too isn’t looking good for him,” another person added.
As time went on, the list of people from Taylor’s innermost circle who’d unfollowed Joe only grew longer and longer.
Taylor’s longtime friend Gigi Hadid unfollowed him almost immediately after being pictured out at dinner with Taylor, Blake, and the Haim sisters on April 20, prompting all sorts of speculation about what was discussed at the meal.
Jack Antonoff, Taylor’s longtime collaborator and super close friend, was quick to hit the unfollow button by Joe’s name too, as was actor Lena Dunham.
And Taylor’s longtime close friends Claire Winter Kislinger and Abigail Anderson Berard (her literal childhood BFF!) were just another two of the people who’d unfollowed Joe on Instagram, too.
Interesting, to say the least.
