Thiago Silva has already handed Chelsea a huge boost towards the signing of Neymar. The 31-year-old has been previously linked with a move to Stamford Bridge but, with the winger facing an uncertain future at Paris Saint-Germain, a transfer to west London could finally be on the cards.
According to Brazilian publication UOL, the French giants are eager to offload Neymar this summer in order to free up space on their wage bill. In fact, PSG are said to be so keen to sell the Brazil international that they would be willing to accept a ‘significantly reduced’ offer for his services.
The report adds that Neymar is aware of the Parisians’ decision and is now pushing for an exit from Les Parc des Princes. The former Barcelona star has been subject to plenty of criticism from PSG supporters recently, with fans calling for him to leave from outside his residence.
UOL have outlined that Chelsea are joined by Manchester United and Newcastle in the race to sign Neymar. And, ordinarily, while the Blues may feel threatened by the Red Devils’ pedigree or the Magpies’ financial power, Silva has already steered his fellow countryman towards west London.
Last summer, the veteran defender revealed to Spanish outlet MARCA that PSG gave him the cold shoulder before eventually deciding to join the Blues as a free agent. Towards the end of the interview, Silva encouraged Neymar to follow him to Chelsea.
“They didn’t offer me anything,” said the 38-year-old. “Not even a euro. ‘Thiago, do you accept a euro to stay with us?’ Nothing at all. It was very annoying. They had three months to plan my farewell, but nothing was done.
“I was not there for a season or a few months, it was an eight-year story of a captain who lifted many trophies for that club. He deserved me much more respect than that. And the same thing happened to Cavani.
“[Neymar] has to go to Chelsea,” Silva added. “If it happens, it will be the best. Neymar doesn’t need comments… so far, I don’t know anything, but I hope it comes to fruition.”
