The “Gossip Girl” alum presented her husband with the 36th American Cinematheque Award in November 2022, and the video of her speech couldn’t be sweeter.
lake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have one of the sweetest romances in Hollywood. Not only are they parents to their four children, but they’re also known to continuously support one another on social media and the red carpet. On May 2, 2023, TikTok celebrity fan account, @celebrityworld.cc, posted a video of the Gossip Girl alum delivering a touching speech she made in honor of her husband, who received the 36th American Cinematheque Award in November 2022. In less than 24 hours, the resurfaced clip has already gone viral, with 3.9 million views, 585,600 likes, 1,236 comments, and 4,779 shares.
The video shows the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actress standing at the microphone in a gold sequined dress with a deep V-neck. The clip starts with Lively saying, “Now, I am his home, and our girls are his home. And just like that 19-year-old boy, he races home. Whether it’s across the globe or a meeting across the street, he is hard wired to get home.”
The camera then cuts to the Green Lantern actor sitting in the audience. Lively continues, “If he came home from set not in his wardrobe, we would be very concerned.” Reynolds and the rest of the audience laugh. “Soaked in mud, fake blood, real blood, prosthetic scars, super hero suits, tap shoes, or clown makeup, daddy always comes home,” the Age of Adeline star jokes. Again, the video shows Reynolds’ smiling reaction. “And that man races back to his real life like nothing I have ever seen, especially not by someone who’s able to be so all in in his work and life,” Lively recounts.
She then takes a moment to praise her husband for all of his strengths as a partner and dad. “He’s able to somehow be everything to everyone all at once,” she gushes. “He’s the most present person you will ever meet. And yes, he creates magic in his work, but man, oh man does he create magic in his real life. And my girlies, they know what I’m talking about. Hi, JJ. Home is where the heart is, which is why he gives so much of his heart back home.”
When the Deadpool actor accepted his award, he started his own speech with a self-deprecating remark. “Anyone who knows me knows how much I love an evening devoted entirely to me,” he quipped. “I’ve never really taken myself too seriously, as many of you know, and it creates a pretty confounding paradox when I’m celebrated by a very serious award show with a prestigious company like this.” Reynolds then took a moment to return the favor and honor his wife. “Most importantly, I get to spend my days working with my favorite collaborator of all, my wife, Blake,” he shared. “You are the greatest ghostwriter in Hollywood history. You have literally authored me into this moment.”
