Chris Hemsworth says he is done spending his days with “mad geniuses” like Taika Waititi and George Miller.
If Chris Hemsworth is to get back to wielding Thor’s hammer, he wants the character to be reinvented and definitely is not willing to play Taika Waititi ‘s goofy Thor again. The actor opened up about his potential Alzheimer’s diagnosis and career aspirations in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Thor’s star found out he was genetically predisposed to Alzheimer’s during filming Disney Plus’ Limitless, a show dedicated to ways to live a better longer life. This threat of a potential diagnosis seems to have changed the way Hemsworth looks at his life.
The actor said that he intended to take a pause and spend more time with his family. He apparently is all about making self-care a priority. Thus, Hemsworth confessed that working with directors who are known for being “mad” but making genius movies is no longer his cup of tea.
“Is that who I want to spend my days with?” Hemsworth asks himself.
The actor didn’t clarify who he meant, but it is safe to assume that at least two of his latest projects fit the description, Taika Waiti’s Love and Thunder and George Miller’s Furiosa. Does it mean Hemsworth is done with Thor? Not at all. The actor is ready to return to the role at least one more time but he wants a fresh take on the character.
Hemsworth reconfirmed what he’s been saying previously, he feels “lazy” when playing a familiar character and would be excited to see the tone and character of Thor changed. The actor said in an earlier interview that Thor 1 and 2 were similar as well as Thor 3 and 4, so the time had come to “reinvent” the character again which could mean changing its director again.
A fresh look at a character keeps an actor on their toes, Chris Hemsworth thinks. However, even if Marvel decides to take a drastic turn with Thor, Hemsworth is ready to follow some of his co-stars’ examples and leave the MCU for good.
“I feel like we’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again,” the actor revealed to Vanity Fair.
Though Thor 5’s release date hasn’t been officially announced yet, it could be the final Thor movie and probably a refreshed one.
