“I’m making sure everyone lives it up like me, Jason Momoa. I’m going to love this job!” says Momoa in the video.
Abu Dhabi, say a sad aloha to Kevin Hart, and then say a very happy aloha to Jason Momoa!
(Aloha means both goodbye and hello. Sorry that was confusing.)
Yas Island has a new Chief Island Officer, and it’s Aquaman and Khal Drogo himself.
“Yas Island’s new Chief Island Officer is finally here! Say Aloha to @prideofgypsies and get ready to #LiveItUpLikeMomoa. Watch this space for more,” the UAE destination posted on its official Instagram.
The brand also released an official teaser video to kickstart the new campaign, which you can watch below.
Get ready to #LiveItUpLikeMomoa
“There comes a time when you discover your calling. When you realize your destiny. And you know your whole life has led to this one ridiculously awesome job. They made me Chief Island Officer of Yas Island Abu Dhabi. so now I’m making sure everyone lives it up like me, Jason Momoa. I’m going to love this job!” says Momoa in the video.
Last summer, the holiday destination, home to Ferrari World, the Yas Marina Circuit, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi and more, ran a months-long campaign that had Kevin Hart humorously show off all the different sides of the area, poking fun at his height and more.
Jason Momoa, known for his larger-than-life presence and joyful personality, will be doing this the Momoa way, releasing this right before his appearance as the villain in the 10th installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, as well as his titular performance in the upcoming Aquaman 2 later this year.
“We are pleased to appoint Hollywood sensation Jason Momoa as the new Chief Island Officer for Yas Island Abu Dhabi. We received resounding feedback following Kevin’s Hart farewell campaign and we are excited to deliver yet another successful storyline for fans to follow. As Yas Island Abu Dhabi continues to entertain guests with best-in-class experiences and with offerings that resonate with visitors from all over the world, we look forward to raising the bar even higher in the days to come with Jason Momoa as the island’s newest officer,” Liam Findlay, CEO of Miral Destinations said, confirming the news.
Hart posted his goodbye last month.
Jason Momoa’s real life energy on display in Fast X
We spoke recently with Fast X director Louis Leterrier about Momoa’s inclusion in the franchise, and what he will bring to his role.
“Yeah, he’s a different type of a villain not only for the franchise. He’s the type of antagonist that I’ve rarely seen before in any movie. He’s the man who has studied his enemy almost like an obsessed fan. He’s also the polar opposite of Dom. He’s all color and flamboyance. It’s the ying and yang, the christ and the anti-christ—the anti-Dom,” Leterrier told us.
The ‘live it up like Momoa’ energy was real, according to the filmmaker.
“On set, it felt this way. The Vin energy was calm and collected, almost zen-like, and Jason was just like rock & roll, an electric bass that’s slapping. There was always music coming out of the Jason camp.
“What was really important for me was to bring it back to the car. This franchise is all about cars, but we hadn’t seen a driver antagonist for a long time. He’s a driver—he grew up driving, being obsessed with Dom Toretto and tried to become him. He’s a gearhead just like Dom Toretto, but a very different type of gearhead. They are also polar opposites in their driving styles. The person that keeps their hand on the wheel and the person that lets go. That’s very interesting to me, and it’s the theme of the entire movie, and the entities that oppose them,” Leterrier concluded.
We’ll see more of Momoa on Yas Island soon.
Aloha, everyone!
