Actor Adam Pally was once rejected by J-Lo when he asked the singer out on a date, following her breakup with Ben Affleck.
Jennifer Lopez is one of the biggest pop culture icons of the moment, as well as one of the most influential Hispanic performers of all time. J-Lo has appeared in numerous movies, has released albums that have hit the number-one charts, and even led a Super Bowl half-time show alongside Shakira.
With estimated global sales of 80 million records and cumulative film grossing of more than $3 billion, it’s easy to understand how J.Lo has amassed her $400 million net worth.
As if her successful career as an actress and a singer wasn’t enough, J-Lo’s personal life gives fans and the media plenty to talk about. Since she began her career in the early 90s, Jennifer Lopez’s romantic life has made the tabloids on more than one occasion. Now that the actress is happily married to Ben Affleck, actor and comedian Adam Pally revealed that he asked the performer on a date back when she had just broken up with Affleck. As you can guess, he didn’t have much luck with that.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Were One of the Most Popular Celebrity Couples of the Early 2000s
J-Lo and Ben Affleck’s romance has been 20 years in the making. The pair initially met in 2002 when they co-starred in the romantic comedy Gigli. Although Lopez and Affleck’s on-screen chemistry was highly praised, the movie, which came out the following year, was a huge blockbuster fail.
At the time they met, Lopez was married to the actor Cris Judd. However, the couple divorced in 2003, and J-Lo and Ben Affleck revealed their romance to the public shortly after. In fact, in an interview with Diane Sawyer, the singer and actress revealed she had just gotten engaged to the actor. In the following years, the couple would go on to become one of the most popular celeb couples of the time, becoming the obsession of the tabloids.
But, just a couple of days before they were meant to get married in Santa Barbara in September 2003, the couple released a statement announcing that they would be postponing their wedding. “Due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to postpone the date,” the couple wrote in the statement. “When we found ourselves seriously contemplating hiring three separate ‘decoy brides’ at three different locations, we realized that something was awry.”
Although they momentarily seemed to rekindle their relationship after the cancelation of their wedding, ultimately, Lopez and Affleck officially split up in January 2004. Sources close to the couple revealed that the main reason behind their breakup had been the intense media attention they received throughout their relationship. Despite this, the couple seemed to have ended things on good terms. In fact, they worked together on the 2004 film Jersey Girl, which was released two months after their split.
Adam Pally Tried Asking Jennifer Lopez Out After Her Breakup With Ben Affleck, But It Didn’t Go Well
Following J-Lo’s split with Ben Affleck, another actor tried to shoot his shot with the “On the Floor” singer. On a 2018 appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Adam Pally revealed that he was once rejected by Jennifer Lopez.
The comedian explained that when he was 21, he went to “half of one” at the end of the season, where James Lipton interviewed Lopez. The audience then got the chance to ask the singer a question, so Pally “blacked out” and tried to ask her on a date. “I was like, I know that you’ve recently gone through a breakup with Casey Affleck—don’t know why I said that—to which then she quickly responded, ‘Ben.'”
Pally then told Lopez that he had recently gone through a breakup too and felt like they had a ‘connection’. “Then I went even further—so dumb—and I was like, ‘So if you’d like to maybe, after your taping of this, I rented a DVD of the movie Big Fish…'”, the Dog Days actor explained. But at the end of the day, J-Lo turned him down, “She was very sweet, she was like, ‘Oh no, thank you very much.’ And it didn’t get a laugh, obviously, and I was like horribly embarrassed.”
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Are Now Happily Married
Following their breakup in 2004, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck pursued other relationships and started families of their own. The singer got married to Marc Anthony in 2004, and they had two children together. Meanwhile, Affleck was married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018, and they had three kids together.
Although the couple seemed to remain friends after their split, they hit the tabloids once again in 2021. Following her split from Alex Rodriguez, the media saw that Lopez had begun spending time with Affleck. A couple of months later, the couple became Instagram official after Lopez posted several photos, including one of her kissing the actor, for her 52nd birthday. And in 2022, the couple finally tied the knot with a private ceremony in Las Vegas.
