Thor has many impressive skills and powers, but few Marvel fans know that Mjolnir’s divine status gives Thor an extra edge against vampires.
Not even the sharpest experts on vampires know that Thor’s majestic Mjolnir is an even more effective weapon when wielded against the forces of darkness. The Marvel Universe is no stranger to housing unexplainable and virtually impossible occurrences. Although most of the time these have an extraterrestrial origin or are driven by science and technology, it should come as no surprise that the supernatural in its most classic sense also plays a key role in Marvel’s world.

Vampires have a long history in the Marvel Universe. They have been proven to have the same weaknesses as any other creature of the night in any other universe. Crosses, garlic, holy water, sunlight, and everything else in between still apply to vampires in the Marvel universe. Believe it or not, even the God of Thunder’s mighty hammer falls under one of the things that can slay a vampire instantly.

Thor’s Hammer Mjolnir Qualifies As A Religious Relic
This is confirmed in Thor #332, by Alan Zelenetz Don Perlin, Vince Colletta, and George Russos, when Dracula makes an appearance in the Marvel Universe, setting his sights squarely on Sif. Thor finds himself facing a vampire and upon striking the living dead man with his mighty hammer, the creature is immediately reduced to ash. The comic reminds readers that in belonging to a God and being wielded by a staunch believer, the enchanted Mjolnir is technically a religious relic.
While the vast stretching origins of Mjolnir remain complicated at best and convoluted at worst, one consistency in the history of the hammer is that it was blessed in its forging and creation. This is almost the equivalent of holy water being blessed, and as vampire lore has firmly established, blessed items brandished by a true believer can be deadly for anyone considered unholy. Obviously, Thor firmly believes in his own godly status, which makes Mjolnir an instant-kill weapon against the vampires of the Marvel Universe.
Over the years, Mjolnir has rightfully cemented its place among Marvel’s most powerful weapons, but with this ability to annihilate even the unkillable, the hammer manages to shoot itself up a few ranks on the tier list. Even the galaxy’s mightiest weapons have their limitations, but Mjolnir’s limitations seem few and far between when not even the living dead can possibly be unscathed by its wrath. This also emphasizes an often overlooked belief facet of Mjolnir: not only it is a mighty instrument of war, but it is also the holy symbol of a living god, which makes Thor‘s trusted hammer the perfect vampire slaying weapon.
