American singer and actor Selena Gomez has been one of the country’s much-loved celebrities, especially among young adults. The star who began her career with Barney and Friends went on to feature regularly in Disney Channel shows like Wizards of Waverly Place and other mainstream Hollywood films along with developing a promising music career.
Her performance in the television series Only Murders in the Building which also featured veterans Martin Short and Steve Martin received high praise. Despite seeing success at a young age, Selena Gomez also faced a debilitating health condition in Lupus, an autoimmune disease that threatened to put a stop to her career. Having gone through extensive treatment, the Monte Carlo actor spoke candidly about the physical and emotional challenges she endured in her fight.

The actor even went through a kidney transplant as part of the treatment for her health condition, with her close friend Francia Raisa selflessly donating her kidney to the star. The singer-turned-actor spoke to US Weekly and shared many physical after-effects that she underwent as a result of the heavy doses of medication she had to take, saying,
“I tend to hold a lot of water weight and that happens very normally. And then when I’m off of my medication, I tend to lose weight,”
The high amount of steroids and drugs that Selena Gomez had to take resulted in significant weight gain for the actor. The physical and emotional aftermath of this result, therefore, took a toll as expected.
