Chelsea are planning to sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen in the summer and could send American winger Christian Pulisic in the other direction in a player-plus-cash deal, as Blues chiefs identify the Nigerian striker as the ‘right profile’ for the Premier League, according to a report.
It remains to be clear whether the Serie A leader would be open to such an offer, but the prospect of Pulisic playing more minutes at the Stadio Armando Maradona than he currently does at Stamford Bridge is an exciting one for US soccer fans.
And despite manager Graham Potter’s future hanging in the balance, club executives are seemingly intent on planning its recruiting strategy for next season, according to Italian website Calciomercato.
What’s more is Chelsea owner Todd Boehly reportedly doesn’t plan on stopping his spending spree anytime soon despite the club having spent $394million (₤323million) in January.
That’s more than the combined outlay by clubs in Serie A, LaLiga, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 during the winter transfer window.
Chelsea’s 25-year-old US winger Christian Pulisic could be used as bait to land Victor Osimhen
Victor Osimhen, 24, has contributed to Napoli’s stellar season, scoring 21 goals in 23 games
However, that won’t bother the American financier, who is said to be willing to spend as much as it takes to return to the Champions League with the Blues.
Per TransferMarkt, Osimhen is estimated to be worth $74million (€70million).
The 24-year-old Nigerian is in the form of his life this season, scoring 21 goals in 23 matches in Serie A, as Napoli remains 19 points clear of second place Lazio.
The Nigerian’s also registered five assists in Italy’s top flight this campaign and has fired the Azzurri to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, scoring four times in five matches.
These performances have led to Europe’s top clubs setting their sights on him, with Chelsea appearing ready to present their first offer.
Meanwhile, there’s also strong interest in Pulisic from AC Milan and Juventus, with the winger among Stefano Pioli’s and Massimo Allegri’s transfer targets this summer, per Caliomercato.
