American Idol contestant Sara Beth Liebe is speaking out after judge Katy Perry received backlash for seemingly mocking the mother-of-three during her audition.
During the March 5 episode of American Idol, Sara Beth shocked the judges when she revealed that she had given birth to three children before the age of 25.
Katy, 38, pretended as though she was going to faint, which prompted Sara Beth to say: ‘If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m going to pass out.’
Katy – who is a mother, herself – then quipped: ‘Honey, you been laying on the table too much.’
In a new TikTok, the aspiring singer admitted that she found the joke ‘hurtful’ and went on to discourage others from taking part in ‘mom shaming.’
Speaking out: American Idol contestant Sara Beth Liebe is speaking out after judge Katy Perry received backlash for seemingly mocking the mother-of-three during her audition
‘At the start of my audition before I sang, I mentioned that I had three children and was a young mother and Katy Perry made a joke that wasn’t super kind,’ began Sara Beth, as transcribed by JustJared.
‘I don’t have too much to say on my feelings about it because it’s probably pretty self explanatory.’
She continued: ‘It was embarrassing to have that on TV. And it was hurtful and, you know, that’s that.
Sara Beth went on to encourage others to uplift women and spoke directly other young mothers who have reached out to her in support.
‘But, I did want to take this opportunity to say that I think that women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool and I think that mom shaming is super lame.
‘And I think that it’s hard enough to be a mom and it’s hard enough to be a woman. I wanted to take this opportunity to say I see all of the young moms and just moms in general who have commented on all of the videos and posts… I see you and I hear you and I am grateful for you.
‘Keep loving your babies. Nobody deserves to feel crappy about that. I think if you’re a good mama and you love your babies that’s all that really matters and other comments don’t feel necessary,’ concluded Sara Beth.
According to her TikTok, Sara Beth welcomed her first child at age 18.
For the most part, she keeps her three children off social media and has not disclosed any details about their ages or genders.

Katy came under fire shortly after Sara Beth’s audition aired earlier this month, with many accusing her of ‘bullying’ the 25-year-old.
Others defended Katy by saying that she was just being ‘honest’ with the singer-songwriter and encouraging her to give it her all.
During the audition, Sara Beth appeared to be incredibly nervous as she stood in front of Katy and fellow judges Lionel Richie, 73, and Luke Bryan, 46.
‘Freak us out, Freaky Friday,’ Katy said.
Katy first made a rude remark about being such a young three-time mom, and then loudly said, ‘Is this your dream?’
She continued: ‘If it’s not your dream, you might need to leave because there’s a lot of dreams behind you.’
Sara Beth sang Amy Winehouse’s You Know I’m No Good, and Katy interrupted her performance, saying ‘Come on, we need more,’ as Sara Beth continued.
‘That’s not enough,’ Katy said when Sara Beth was done singing. ‘Try Bennie and the Jets,’ she instructed, adding that Sara Beth had nothing to lose because it’s ‘not her dream yet.’

The Teenage Dream singer urged her to ‘show us what your voice can do, take it to the limit, no looking back.’
She added, ‘Sing it like it’s your new dream.’
Sara Beth tried to incorporate Katy’s advice into her second song while Katy continued shouting demands at her while she sang.
‘More of that! Hold it out,’ Katy said before dubbing her ‘Accidental American Idol.’
‘I feel like a comic strip character just came to life,’ Katy said after Sara Beth was done, while Luke expressed his ‘love’ for her performance.
‘Look, if it’s not your dream, it’s not gonna go far because I also respect everyone that’s walking through that door who will lay down their life for this golden ticket [to Hollywood],’ Katy told her.
Luke and Katy voted for Sara Beth to move on to the next round, while Lionel ‘went with his gut’ and voted against her.
‘Sara Beth, you’re in the dream now. Go get your golden ticket. Hurry before the dream ends,’ Katy said, dismissing Leibe nonchalantly.
Fans of American Idol were quick to criticize Katy’s behavior.
‘I really do not like how Katy Perry just treated Sara Beth on AmericanIdol. They let Katy Perry bully this woman on live national tv before she even started singing. So ugly,’ a fan wrote on Twitter.

Another fan wrote, ‘Boo to Katy Perry for mom shaming Sara Beth. Insinuating that she has been ‘laying on the table too much’ to have 3 kids by age 25. A young mother following a dream while raising her children should be raised up not put down.’
Meanwhile, some people agreed with the Roar hitmaker’s assessment of Sara Beth.
‘Katy Perry judging a contestant and a show that judges contestants? Shocking. Ever heard of @SimonCowell,’ a fan tweeted.
Another added, ‘Being honest is now bullying.’
