It seems Suri Cruise might be involved in Hollywood, but not necessarily as an actress.
Plenty of famous Hollywood faces have supremely talented offspring. Even if they don’t have any particular talents, the children of famous actors and musicians earn plenty of attention just for their genetics. But many celebrity kids wind up in the spotlight by choice, whether they decide to start musical careers like their dads (like Willow and Jaden Smith) or modeling careers like their moms (Heidi Klum’s daughter Leni).
One high-profile celebrity tot who’s nearing legal working age is Suri Cruise, who’s looking more like her famous actress mom the older she gets. With her mom diving back into acting (Katie nearly nabbed a role in Orange is the New Black, but hadn’t appeared in any huge hits for quite some time), fans are wondering whether Suri will join in.
Does Suri Cruise Want To Act?
When Suri Cruise was born, fans of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were thrilled. Two talented actors would, no doubt, produce a highly talented child together. And over the years, Suri was a paparazzi magnet, with people clamoring to get snapshots of the adorable toddler.
Though the Cruise family was relatively private, Suri clearly became accustomed to being photographed and didn’t seem too upset by all the attention. Yet fewer photos were taken of her after Tom and Katie split up, but it was clear Suri spent most of her time with her mom.
The pair were still involved in Hollywood, with Suri making public appearances with Katie quite often. The two are frequently spotted around NYC, but it doesn’t seem they’re heading to auditions. Rather, it seems they’re simply living life.
Suri Has A Few Acting Credits To Her Name
Suri does have a few acting credits on her IMDb resume already, though most are as herself or in archive footage. Her sole acting credit is from 2013 in the film Oblivion. The film was, of course, led by her dad Tom, and Suri played his daughter.
It was a small role, however, and didn’t seem to lead to any other gigs. The film also came out the year after Suri’s parents’ divorce was finalized; there were rumors that Tom didn’t remain involved with Suri after the split.
That suggests that had Tom wanted to continue having Suri appear in his films, Katie might have had some objections to it if that was the only time Tom spent with his youngest child.
Either way, Suri didn’t have an acting credit after that one movie role, which could also suggest that she didn’t enjoy the process or maybe wasn’t interested in acting in the first place.
Suri Cruise Probably Won’t Follow In Her Parents’ Footsteps
Though her name already has enough star power to fuel any Hollywood career, it seems unlikely that Suri wants to pursue acting in a serious way. Yet Suri has had some involvement in the entertainment side of things.
It was recently revealed that Suri had a singing part in her mom’s film Alone Together. In the R-rated movie, Katie Holmes plays a food critic double-booked in an AirBnB with a stranger.
Suri’s part is as a performer of the song “Blue Moon,” a song that is on the film’s soundtrack. While she no doubt enjoyed working with her mom on the film, Suri didn’t have a significant part in the movie.
Does Suri Have A Future In The Music Industry?
Assuming Suri is a good singer, which she probably had to be to get the gig — even though her mom did write and direct the movie — the role could lead to more work in music in the future.
In fact, in an interview, Katie revealed that Suri’s vocals would also be featured in her film Rare Objects (though IMDb doesn’t show a credit for the movie under Cruise’s name).
Holmes also suggested that Suri’s singing talent is promising; she said, “I always want the highest level of talent, so I asked her.”
Wouldn’t it be interesting if the daughter of one of Hollywood’s most famous former couples, including one of the biggest actors ever, became a hit singer before she even graduates 12th grade?
Of course, Holmes did say that her teen daughter, apart from lending her voice to some projects, is just a “kid doing high school.” So perhaps Suri’s path isn’t as clear-cut as fans would assume, given her talent and family background.
Whatever she winds up doing, it’s obvious she’ll have her mom’s full support, though her dad doesn’t seem to have publicly endorsed any particular career path since Suri was a toddler.
