Although Henry Cavill, Dwayne Johnson, and Ben Affleck have left the DCEU, many actors will be reprising their DC roles in James Gunn’s DCU.
Ever since the DCEU was born, it has struggled to match the success of the MCU. As such, the new DC Studios’ co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have concluded that building new walls is better than patching up cracks. The DCU has thus been rebooted. Because of all these new developments, a couple of actors have been left out of the plans.

Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, and Ben Affleck have all departed, leaving a few names that will either be part of the DCU for a long time or will be featured in a few more projects before being discarded entirely. No matter the plan, fans of these actors will be glad that they are still around after the shake-up.

The actor who seemed destined to be relieved of their duties is still an important cog in the DC wheel. This is simply because too much money ($200 million) had been invested in the first-ever solo movie about one of DC’s fastest speedsters. Washing it all down the drain is, therefore, an impossibility.
In recent months, many DC fans have been made aware of the actor’s numerous controversies, but Ezra Miller and The Flash (2023) are still set to be a part of the rebooted DCU. This means they are likely to be included in more Elseworlds storylines if the project does well at the box office and receives positive critical and commercial reception.
7Viola Davis Has A Solo Series Coming Up
A solo series about Amanda Waller has already been announced, which means Viola Davis will be involved in the DCU for a long time. The actor has been impressive in her role as the Director of A.R.G.U.S., and through her character, fans are likely to be treated to an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. type of show.

This would also mean that Davis’s show falls under the Elseworlds category. Waller has interacted with members of the old DCEU such as Cavill’s Superman and Affleck’s Batman. Various Suicide Squad plots are likely to be featured in Waller series too, creating room for the return of other fan favorites.
6Jason Momoa Might Swap Characters
Interestingly, not much has been said about Momoa’s Aquaman sequel, even though James Gunn has been generous with details about other projects. However, there have been rumors that the actor might play one of the greatest Superman villains, the bounty hunter, Lobo.
Momoa’s physique and physical features perfectly match Lobo’s, so the actor would definitely be a perfect fit. If the rumors are to be believed, Momoa might find himself squaring off against the next Superman right after his Aquaman adventures come to an end. DC fans are hyped for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Momoa’s potential face-off against Superman.
5Margot Robbie Has Been Outstanding As Harley Quinn
With the announcement that Lady Gaga is set to play another version of Harley Queen in Joker: Folie a Deux, it might seem that Robbie’s time has run out, but that’s unlikely to be the case. The actor is a James Gunn favorite, proof of which lies in the fact that she’s one of the few actors he plucked from the flopped Suicide Squad movie.

Robbie has also appeared in three DCEU projects so far, which is more than most actors in the franchise. Since the world of the Suicide Squad is being kept alive through the Waller series, fans can expect Robbie to feature, at least in a supporting capacity. Furthermore, the success of the Harley Quinn animated series has proven that fan interest in the character is still high. Robbie might even get her own solo project down the line.
4Zachary Levi Has Reassured Fans
Shazam! is one of the best-reviewed DCEU movies, so it’s no surprise that there is a strong incentive to keep Zachary Levi in the DCU. For now, his position seems safe as he recently assured a concerned fan on Twitter that his character was here to stay.
Fans of heroes who wield Shazam’s power thus have no need to frown after Dwayne Johnson’s departure. If the trailers are anything to go by, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will not disappoint. From there on, the character could possibly make more cameos or be granted more solo projects.
3John Cena’s Peacemaker Is One Of The Best Things To Happen To The DCEU
The only DCEU series is also its best-reviewed project, sitting at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is thanks to James Gunn’s work as well as John Cena’s incredible performance as Peacemaker. Just as this project convinced Warner Bros. to put Gunn in charge, it has convinced Gunn to keep using Cena.

The co-CEO did indeed confirm that a second season of Peacemaker will happen, but fans don’t know when it will be released. How Peacemaker fits into the new DCU remains to be seen, but the character will definitely be squeezed in somewhere.
2Ella Jay Basco’s Cassandra Cain Still Has Potential
Ella Jay Basco was impressive in Birds of Prey, even though it was mostly a Harley Quinn tale. Still, her character’s story is only half-told. In the comics, Cassandra Cain grows to become one of the most feared versions of Batgirl.
With the Batgirl movie having been axed, fans will still be eager to see what DC does with the character going forward. There’s no better way to revive the Batman sidekick than to bring back Cassandra Cain, who has deadly adventures in DC Comics and great fight sequences, thanks to her martial arts skills.
1Idris Elba’s Bloodsport Has Unfinished Business
Idris Elba is yet another James Gunn favorite and for that reason, fans can look forward to seeing more of him. His character, Bloodsport, has unfinished business after blackmailing Amanda Waller at the end of The Suicide Squad, meaning there’s the likelihood of the two clashing again in the Waller series.
Such tales will definitely fall under the Elseworlds category. However, all the universes might become connected, which could bring Bloodsport to the upcoming DCU continuity. This is hinted at in the co-CEO’s recent remark about The Flash, which he said is meant to reset the entire DC landscape.
