Captain America: New World Order can introduce several new super-soldiers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though Sam Wilson’s Captain America is not a super-soldier, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier explored the complicated history of the serums and experiments that have helped populate the shared universe with so many of them. This included revealing the secret history of Isaiah Bradley and the rise of the Flag Smashers. Captain America 4‘s story is still largely unknown, but there is reason to believe that the focus on super-soldiers will continue.
The Captain America franchise has always had a tie to this section of the MCU thanks to Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes representing two of the most prominent super-soldiers. Captain America: New World Order is bringing back Isaiah Bradley to explain his past further, while the involvement of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer Malcolm Spellman points to continuing larger storylines left by the Disney+ show. The movie is delivering some surprises by using The Leader and Thunderbolt Ross while leaving Bucky Barnes and possibly Sharon Carter out. However, Captain America 4 could set up a number of other MCU super-soldiers for the future.
6. Captain America 4 Can Set Up The MCU’s Wolverine
Exploring more of the world’s history with super-soldier experiments could be a way that Captain America: New World Order sets up the MCU’s real Wolverine. There is understandable excitement about Hugh Jackman returning for Deadpool 3, but he will not be the main version of the mutant in the franchise. Wolverine is not like most super-soldiers, as his mutant powers are not derived from a super-soldier serum. However, the Weapon X experiments that are responsible for fusing Wolverine with adamantium are part of the same Weapon Plus Program in the comics that was responsible for creating Captain America’s super-soldier serum.
If Captain America 4 dives deeper into the history of super-soldiers, the movie could uncover the present status of these types of experiments. It could even connect to rumors that adamantium has a key role to play in the MCU Phase 5 movie. These two storylines could collide by the time Captain America: New World Order is over to show that someone has established a Weapon X program. This would directly set up the eventual debut of the MCU’s Wolverine as long as he goes through these experiments to get his adamantium claws.
5. Luke Cage Could Return In Captain America: New World Order
Captain America: New World Order can also use make Luke Cage another MCU super-soldier. Netflix brought a version of Luke Cage to live-action as part of the Defenders universe, but the character has yet to be properly added to the larger franchise. His origin and powers make him a perfect fit to have a role in Captain America 4 or for his appearance to be set up throughout the story. Luke Cage’s powers are tied to the Burstein Process in the comics, which is a variation of the super-soldier serum that powered Captain America.
Including Luke Cage in Captain America 4 would be a great way for the MCU super-soldier serum’s history to expand. It would also be a way to build on ideas presented in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that Black men have a suppressed history with these types of programs. After Sam helped bring Isaiah Bradley’s story into the public eye, an encounter with Luke Cage could similarly help raise awareness that other types of MCU super-soldier experiments. It also is a chance for Captain America: New World Order to feature another potential new MCU Avenger.
4. Captain America 4 Might Set Up Sentry Before Thunderbolts
Captain America 4‘s super-soldier story could also be used to set up one of the comics’ most powerful examples. Robert Reynolds a.k.a. Sentry gained his powers after consuming the serum created by Project: Sentry, a combined effort from Canada and the United States to recreate and amplify the strength of the super-soldier serum. It was built on the back of the original Captain America super-soldier serum project, making it something that Sam Wilson could learn about in Captain America: New World Order if he investigates new leads about possible remnants of the original experiments and attempts to duplicate its success.
Teasing Sentry in Captain America: New World Order could come at the perfect time, as the character is rumored to be Thunderbolts‘ villain. Marvel’s Thunderbolts movie has plenty of super-soldier connections already thanks to Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, and U.S. Agent, so it could introduce Sentry all on its own. However, the MCU loves the connectivity between projects when possible. Since Captain America 4 leads directly into Thunderbolts, any setup for Sentry’s super-soldier project would make sense, even if it waits until the MCU Phase 5 movie post-credits scene.
3. Red Hulk’s Transformation Should Happen In Captain America 4
There is every expectation that Thunderbolt Ross’ transformation into Red Hulk will finally happen in Captain America: New World Order. If it does, this should mean including connections to the super-soldier programs. Hulk and Abomination’s MCU origins and powers are connected to Captain America’s super-soldier serum research. The fact that Red Hulk’s transformation will happen in a Captain America movie only increases the odds that Ross will similarly use variations of that serum to take on his new powered form.
Since Thunderbolt Ross is America’s new president in Captain America: New World Order and has previously served as Secretary of State, he would likely be among those to know about any remaining super-soldier experiments that the United States is involved in. The idea that he could then get his hands on what remains of the serum, or possibly even work with The Leader to replicate it, could be how the MCU explains his Red Hulk transformation. Even if Captain America 4‘s new MCU super-soldiers do not include a Red Hulk turn, the movie is likely to include more teases of this development unfolding in the future.
2. Omega Red Would Expand Russia’s Super-Soldier Experiments
Captain America 4 could give the MCU a new super-soldier by setting up Omega Red too. Omega Red is a Russian mutant also known as Arkady Rossovich who has “death factor” powers that allow him to emit spores that can kill anyone, using tentacles to then absorb his victims’ life force. Omega Red can technically be considered a super-soldier as he spent time trapped by the Russian government where he was the subject of its super-soldier experiments. The MCU already has confirmed Russia’s interest in making super-soldiers through Red Guardian, but Captain America 4 could reveal that their efforts have continued and created someone much worse.
It is unlikely that Omega Red will appear in Captain America: New World Order, but any tease about more Russian experiments could help set him up. Omega Red gets cybernetic enhancements from the Soviets as a result of his experiments, which include gaining tentacles that are made of carbonadium, an attempt to replicate adamantium. He could be a way for the MCU to continue teasing new mutants that already exist before the official main X-Men characters join the franchise.
1. Captain America 4 Can Introduce Britain’s Super Soldier, Union Jack
With hints that Captain America: New World Order could be a bit more international in its focus, the movie could also set up Union Jack as another MCU super-soldier. There have been many versions of Union Jack in the comics, but the one known as Brian Falsworth received powers from a variation of Captain America’s super-soldier serum. Marvel Studios has already teased how Captain America: New World Order will introduce new global heroes like Sabra, so the idea of introducing a version of Union Jack as a UK super-soldier is possible. He could even connect to Oliva Colman’s Secret Invasion character potentially.
