Many Marvel superheroes have found the one, but sometimes things out of their control change or hurt their relationship.
The MCU is known for it’s action packed films about comic book superheroes, but not many people hone in on the toll that this dangerous profession has on romantic relationships. Many of the heroes are with someone they truly love, but that doesn’t mean they can always be together, as we recently saw in the heartbreaking conclusion to Wandavision.

All this being said, some of the worst things imaginable have happened to the couples in the MCU. While some of the couples were able to work through it, many had to sacrifice their relationship in one way or another for the good of the world.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAYClosNed And Betty Break Up
While Ned and Betty aren’t technically superheroes, Ned is Peter’s best friend who helps him with whatever he can in the tech department. Ned and Betty got together during Spiderman: Far From Home, but, unfortunately, they decided to call it quits at the end of the film.
Ned and Betty are both delightfully positive people and they did end things with each other on mutual terms and with the utmost respect. They were adorably cute together though and the relationship really seemed to up Ned’s confidence so it’s sad to see them go.
Tony Takes Pepper For Granted In The FirstIron Man
Tony and Pepper are one of the best MCU couples without a doubt, but in the first Iron Man movie he took Pepper for granted all the time and didn’t really seem to respect her as a person. Though he does make up for this behavior in other films, it doesn’t paint him in the best light.
While some might say that him almost dying alone in space was the worst thing to happen in their relationship, him and Pepper were at peace with one another and had spent years living their perfect little life together. His early days are when he seriously could have messed up this relationship for good.
Christine Breaks Up With Stephen Because He’s Egotistical
Though Dr. Strange starts off with Christine and Stephen already being broken up, it’s clear that they still have a chemistry between them as well as mutual respect. Though she did make the right choice to break up with him before the accident, it’s clear that they could still make it work if they really wanted to do that.

This relationship is obviously really complicated, but because Christine gave up on Stephen before he changed, they will most likely never get the chance to be together again, which is really disheartening considering they still have a spark there.
Jane Breaks Up With Thor To Focus On Her Work
Thor and Jane were one of the most relatable couples for so long and even though they had to deal with Loki and other disruptive forces trying to take over Asgard and Earth, they were only made stronger because of their time fighting side by side.
With that being said, while it’s not explicitly stated in the MCU why the two split, it can be inferred that things just didn’t work out between the Astrophysicist and the Demi God. Jane focusing on her work is most likely the main reason for this considering how upset Thor is, but at least she’s working on herself.
Bucky Tries To Kill Steve Throughout All OfWinter Soldier
Bucky and Steve were best buds back in the 40s and Steven even risked his life to go save his best friend, but that didn’t hold true when they met back up over 70 years later. Bucky, being brainwashed and imprisoned, had been trained to kill the person he loves most in the world.
Though this is more of a bromance rather than a romantic couple, it’s clear that this whole situation hurt Steven to his core because he realized he wasn’t there for someone that needed him the most. Thankfully, Steve saved Bucky from this terrible situation and they share an unbreakable bond once more.
MJ Forgets Peter Existed
Peter Parker and MJ didn’t appear to be the perfect match in Spiderman: Homecoming, but their affections grew in Far From Home. However, because his identity was revealed to the entire world, MJ and everyone else had to forget that he existed.

This is a heartbreaking moment for the couple who are so obviously meant to be and played by Tom Holland and Zendaya who are currently in a long-term relationship themselves. While the future of this couple is not certain in the least, MJ forgetting about Peter Parker is one of the most devastating moments of the Spiderman films.
Scott Gets Stuck In The Quantum Realm And Janet Thinks He Is Dead
One of the worst things to happen to Janet and Scott is when he gets trapped in the Quantum Realm at the same time that the snap that takes away half the world’s population happens so everyone assumes he’s dead. Not even Ant-Man’s best friends in the MCU know they can save him.
When he comes back, it’s been 5 years since she last saw him and everyone’s life look entirely different including his now grown up daughter’s life. This tragic incident didn’t just scar Ant-Man, it deeply hurt his relationship, too.
Natasha Dies Before Her And Bruce Could Be Official
Bruce and Natasha never actually got their moment to be happy with each like other MCU couples have gotten the chance to do and when Natasha died, Bruce’s life changed for the absolute worst. They practically kept each other sane and helped each other get over their personal challenges.
Bruce spent a long time trying to figure out how to get himself out of his Hulk mode and Natasha helped him do that and treated him like a person instead of a science experiment gone wrong. It’s devastating that Natasha had to die for Thanos’ evil plot without ever getting that stable life that she wanted with Bruce.
Steve Doesn’t Get His Dance With Peggy in the 40s
Stopping the Nazis and saving his friend Bucky was everything that Steve ever wanted to do, until he fell deeply in love with the bold Peggy Carter. When he finally plans a date with her at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger, it is heartbreaking to know that he will never get that first dance.
Though he does try to find Peggy when he revives from the ice, it’s clear that the two are now separated by time and will never get that simple, pure moment of joy and know what it’s like to hold each other close like 1940s lovebirds are supposed to do.
Wanda Loses Vision And Mentally Projected A Whole Life With Him
Many of the worst things to happen to any couple in the MCU happened to Wanda and Vision. Not only did she watch him die in her arms twice, but she also felt so much grief that she recreated Vision using her powers and projected a whole sitcom-like reality across an entire town.
Losing Vision for Thanos’ evil plot to destroy half the universe was something that truly shook her to her core and changed Wanda indefinitely. While it’s clear that Vision would want her to move on, the trauma that his death caused will be with her forever.
