Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid are widely considered to be the No. 1 and No. 2 center in the league, in whichever order. Fans often compare the two, but perhaps one day the two centers could team up with one another.
When speaking to the media recently, Nikola Jokic described how a partnership between him and Joel Embiid would work on the court. He noted that he loves playing with a “dominant big man”, and also winked when suggesting the two could team up in the future.
If it’s a real game I think we can play together. He needs to play four of course, because he can defend a little more, better than I… I love to with a big man who is really dominant. I think it could work in the future.
There is no doubt that it would be interesting to see two elite big men team up in the future. Though we rarely see “twin towers” lineups in the NBA, teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers have shown that that type of duo can work even today. Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic are both MVP-level players, and their teaming up could alter the landscape of the league as well. As of now though, there is no evidence that either is pushing for a move to join the other.
Nikola Jokic Has A High Opinion Of Joel Embiid
Despite their consistent battle in the MVP rankings, it is clear that Nikola Jokic has a high opinion of Joel Embiid. Previously, he claimed that Embiid is in the conversation for being the “best player in the league”, noting that the big man “can do everything on the floor”.
“… He’s a great player, great. Like, foreal, great, great player. He can do everything on the floor, who is controlling the game, who is in conversation for MVP and the best player in the league. He’s so dominant. … I like to play with the best.”
There is no doubt that Joel Embiid is a dominant big man who can score on all three levels, and he could end up as the league’s scoring leader once again this year. He also excels on the defensive end as well, often altering shots near the rim with his presence.
The Philadelphia 76ers definitely have a chance to win it all this season, and it’ll be interesting to see how far they get in the playoffs. They are definitely a talented squad, though there are other teams like the Milwaukee Bucks or the Boston Celtics that could end up besting them in a 7-game series. However, with Joel Embiid at the helm, the Philadelphia 76ers will have a chance against anyone.
