Erling Haaland failed to find the net against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon and after two massive misses – fans spotted a moment where Phil Foden could have gifted Haaland a goal
Manchester City dropped more points in the title race on Saturday afternoon as Nottingham Forest held Pep Guardiola’s side to a draw at the City Ground.
Bernardo Silva’s strike was cancelled out by a smash-and-grab strike from Chris Wood. However, Erling Haaland could have gifted City all three points when he missed two huge chances in quick succession.
Haaland had another huge chance minutes later – but Phil Foden couldn’t square the ball to the big Norwegian – and it’s not the first time Foden has failed to gift Haaland a simple tap-in this season.
City played out a heart-stopping 3-3 draw with Newcastle United earlier this season – and Foden once again failed to square the ball to Haaland.
Foden had burst through on goal, but he wasn’t in an ideal position to shoot. Unlike Haaland, who had used his abundance of pace to catch up with Foden and offer him the perfect option to square the ball across the face of the goal.
However, Foden opted to shoot. Haaland would have had an open net, sending City 2-0 ahead, perhaps winning the game. The 22-year-old also failed to square the ball to his Norwegian team-mate against Bournemouth in August in a game that the Cityzens 4-0.
Foden’s wastefulness cost City on Saturday as they lost ground on Arsenal who moved back to the summit of the Premier League table after they secured a late win against Aston Villa during the midday kick-off.
City had been top of the pile heading into the weekend after they seemingly turned their season around with a midweek win over Mikel Arteta’s high-flying Gunners.
