Jobu Tupaki and Scarlet Witch are two of the most powerful beings in the entire multiverse. But which of the two is the more dangerous threat?
Everything Everywhere All at Once and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are perhaps two of the biggest films that feature traveling across the multiverse with hard-hitting emotional cores at their center. It’s also a coincidence that the two feature a tremendously powerful multiversal jumper with reality manipulation powers. That would be Stephanie Hsu’s Joy/Jobu Tupaki and Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, who both act as antagonists in their respective films.5
Jobu Tupaki gained her powers from overexposure to multiverse jumping at a young age, being exposed to too much at once. Now, she can experience every reality at the same time, allowing her to warp things to her liking. On the other hand, Wanda Maximoff gained her powers through Hydra experimentation on the Mind Stone. While her powers were initially limited to only manipulating small doses of reality, such as visions or telekinesis, they have increased throughout the events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That makes one wonder who the greater threat to the multiverse is.
Scarlet Witch’s Spellcasting Would Prove a Challenge for Jobu Tupaki’s Martial Arts
While Jobu and Scarlet Witch are both powerhouses in their own right, Wanda has one thing going for her that Jobu lacks: spellcasting. Wanda can conjure energy blasts powerful enough to completely raze buildings to the ground, much like she did to Kamar Taj and the Illuminati Headquarters in Multiverse of Madness. On a lower level, Wanda can manipulate dreams and create realistic visions that even confuse Thor. Additionally, she effortlessly defeated powerful opponents such as the Illuminati, Doctor Strange and Sorcerer Supreme Wong.
While Jobu certainly has the brutality to off multiple people with her martial arts prowess, as she did when first coming across Evelyn, her martial arts would be nothing against Wanda’s superior ranged attacks. Even if Jobu can bypass Wanda’s Chaos Magic, she would potentially be open to a mental attack, which is strong enough to kill even Charles Xavier of the X-Men and the Illuminati of Earth-838.
Unlike Scarlet Witch, Jobu Tupaki Is Not Limited by Death
Unlike Wanda, who has to enter a meditative trance while using the Darkhold to possess a version of herself in another universe, Jobu experiences everything across the multiverse all at once. That means she can easily travel from one universe to another without preparation. And should Jobu die in one universe, it would be nothing but an inconvenience.
She would simply hop into another universe to continue the fight with Wanda. That means Wanda could kill Jobu any way she likes, but the result would still be moot. Meanwhile, if Jobu successfully kills Wanda, it will be all over for her. And if Jobu kills a possessed variant, Wanda’s ability to exist in that universe would end, and she would have to resort to sending monsters after Jobu.
Jobu Tupaki Has Infinite Knowledge and a Multiversal Weapon
Due to being exposed to the multiverse at a young age, Jobu possesses infinite knowledge of every reality possible, even one where everyone is a rock. This would also mean that she is completely comfortable being an inanimate object should Wanda attempt to turn her into one. Meanwhile, although Wanda possesses some knowledge of the multiverse, as she suggested sending Doctor Strange to a universe where he ended up with Christine, she is still relatively new to the concept, putting her at a disadvantage against a more seasoned multiversal hopper.
But it is the one weapon that Jobu has in her arsenal that would make even Wanda blush: the Everything Bagel. Jobu’s ultimate weapon is a bagel that she puts everything on that acts as a black hole that sucks in all joy, light and life. The item itself is even said to be a grand-scale weapon that could wipe out the entirety of the multiverse. If that is the case, Wanda would have no method of overcoming it, as the only way Jobu and her Bagel were defeated was through kindness and love, something Wanda would not even think of using to defeat her opponent. Despite Wanda being a threat to the multiverse, Jobu’s greater experience traversing the multiverse, durability and Bagel would be too much for the Scarlet Witch to overcome.
