Erling Haaland insists he pays no attention to critics of his place in Manchester City’s team, as he issued a demand to his teammates following the Premier League victory at Arsenal.

Haaland’s 26th Premier League goal of the season – and 32nd in all competitions – sealed a huge 3-1 win that saw City leapfrog Arsenal in the table to return to the top of the league. The Gunners still have a game in hand, but Haaland said he knows what is needed to give City their best chance of retaining their title.

In the background, Haaland has been subject of criticism for a perceived lack of involvement in City’s play, with a tiring debate emerging that has questioned if City are in fact a better or worse team with their 32-goal striker in the side.

Haaland has been honest this week when discussing his frustrations at not always getting the service he wants, but in response to the critics, he was more dismissive.

“That’s my life – I can’t help it,” he said. “The most important thing is to win games and do what the manager says and to perform. There will always be critics. I don’t care. I cannot decide what people say. I can only focus on myself and my team and enjoy life with people around me and my family and friends.”

Turning to what he and City can effect, Haaland said the squad must fight for each other and demand more in order to keep their title chances in their own hands.

“Everyone is the current champions and have experience,” Haaland explains. “We are still a damn good team. This team has been winning the Premier League for the last five seasons. We cannot forget that. I know how good this team is.

“We have to play together and demand from each other. We have to start going on a winning streak and fight for each other in every single game because they are all difficult. We have to start winning more.

“We will get the treatments in, train a little bit and get ready for the next game because it comes really soon, and we have to be sharp in that game.
