Fernandes highlighted Rashford’s notable feat this week and the striker sent a message to his colleague about the rest of the season.
Marcus Rashford has asked Bruno Fernandes to set him up for more goals after the striker fired in his 21st goal of the season in Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Leeds on Sunday.
The England star headed United in front inside the last 10 minutes before Alejandro Garnacho wrapped up the points with his third-ever senior goal. Rashford had also nodded home in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw against Leeds at Old Trafford.
Fernandes noted this feat and reacted to Rashford’s Instagram post captioned ‘Important win’ following Sunday’s clash. The Portugal international said: “So you can also head from the other side”, referencing that the cross for his header at Elland Road came in from the left, as opposed to the right for Wednesday’s goal.
Five of Fernandes’ seven assists this season have been for Rashford goals although neither of this week’s headers were teed up by the midfielder. Instead, full-backs Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw, respectively, set up the attacker’s latest two conversions.
And so, Rashford responded to Fernandes’ Instagram comment by requesting: “Keep servicing me brother! I need more goals.” The striker is in the form of his career and is one of the leading candidates for the club’s player of the year.
The 25-year-old has scored in all but one of his club’s last nine league games and has already more than quadrupled his tally from last season (five). He ended the World Cup as England’s joint top scorer too with three goals alongside Bukayo Saka.
