One Piece: 7 Funniest Characters In The Anime

These characters from the One Piece series are remarkably funny, and they are add to the story’s comedic appeal.

Luffy chopper usopp foxy and buggy

For over 25 years, fans of the long-running anime One Piece have been thrilled not merely by the show’s spectacular battles and gripping plots but also by the absurd and hilarious antics of the show’s many memorable characters. One Piece’s ability to make its audience laugh out loud is one of the numerous ways in which it stands apart from other shonen series.

The One Piece anime series has it all, from mossy heads sleeping through the storm to looks that would make anyone break out laughing. One Piece stands out from its contemporaries due to its remarkable blend of seriousness and humor; fans can’t get enough of the comic relief it gives.

7 Brook

Brook's 45 Degrees Joke

When he joined the Straw Hats in the Thriller Bark arc, Brook rapidly established himself as one of the series’ most entertaining new additions. Brook’s hilarity is due, in large part, to his famous skull jokes. Every time he does something that he clearly can’t do because he lacks the necessary human organs, he brings up his skeleton status and manages to make at least some people laugh.

In addition to his signature skull jokes, Brook is also known for his comedic facial expressions and infectious “Yohohoho” laugh. Brook is one of the most hilarious characters in the One Piece series because of his constant comedic comments, sheer stubbornness in wanting to view ladies’ panties, and occasionally overdone reactions.

6 Zoro

One Piece Zoro thrown off the ship

Unofficially, Roronoa Zoro is Luffy’s right-hand man because he is the strongest swordsman in the Straw Hat crew and has sworn to become the strongest swordsman in the series, surpassing Dracule Mihawk. His demeanor is exactly what you’d expect from a man with his level of ambition. However, his consistent lack of direction is a source of humor for his fans.

Zoro is the type of person who gets so disoriented when walking in a straight line that he becomes wedged in an unused chimney. Fans and One Piece characters alike continue to find it hilariously puzzling how he manages to get lost even on seemingly straightforward routes. And he can sleep through everything, even a sea storm strong enough to destroy the Straw Hats, earning him the comedic reputation of being able to sleep through anything.

5 Buggy

Buggy and his followers at Marineford

Unseriousness, comedy, incredible luck, and vulnerability all sum up to be Buggy the Clown. His first appearance in the One Piece series was a relatively early one. With his role as the main antagonist of the Orange Town arc behind him, Buggy has made numerous subsequent appearances. His attempts to become famous while still holding on to his life provide comic relief in many of his appearances.

Buggy the Clown’s misguided strength that earned him the label of “Yonko” was matched only by his crew’s continual overestimation of his power and bravery and by his hilarious and tactless antics.

4 Foxy

One Piece Foxy The Silver Fox

Contrary to popular belief, not all pirates are loose cannons. Some people rely on deception and dishonesty to make ends meet because they are fundamentally weak. Foxy the Silver Fox, leader of the Foxy Pirates, is just such an example. Foxy frequently uses Davy Back Fight competitions, in which the victorious crew takes over the members of the defeated crew. But he uses deception to accomplish his goal. Foxy’s comedic performances stem from the ease with which his confidence can be shattered.

Foxy’s gloomy episodes are triggered by any criticism, and he quickly becomes physically and psychologically incapacitated. Nami and Usopp took advantage of Foxy’s vulnerability by alternating between lavishing him with praise and showering him with insults, sending him from ecstasy to despair at a rate that had viewers roaring with laughter.

3 Chopper

Chopper was inspired by Luffy and Usopp, so he began to imitate their actions and make funny expressions, too. Chopper, Luffy, and Usopp are always up to something, whether it’s using chopsticks to alter their facial features or breaking into hilarious dance routines.

Fans are thrilled with Chopper, who is also misidentified as a tanuki (racoon dog) rather than a reindeer, especially when he violently sets the characters’ records straight. No one can really hold him accountable, though, as his human-human fruit makes him resemble a tanuki rather than a reindeer. Chopper’s low bounty is an ongoing joke because the public misjudges him as their pet rather than the doctor that he is.

2 Luffy

One Piece Luffy imitates Chopper

To fit his role as the protagonist of the hilarious One Piece anime series, Luffy is portrayed as a carefree individual who places a high value on his independence. Luffy has his moments of seriousness, but he is best known for his amusing commentary and constant mispronunciation of names. His exaggerated emotions and facial expressions are just as effective at entertaining his audience as his verbal delivery.

Especially early on, the comedic tendencies of Luffy and his crew elevated the series to the level of a comedy anime with occasional fight scenes. And yet, even as the series goes on, and the stakes get higher and higher, Luffy’s character stays true to the show’s signature absurdity.

1 Usopp

Usopp reaction to 500 million bounty

Whether it was his intention or not, Usopp became the most famous and comical character in the One Piece series. Usopp, in contrast to other characters, is armed with a plethora of jokes. Usopp never fails to make his audience laugh, whether it’s because of his over-the-top facial expressions or his chronic case of “can’t get on this island disease.”

His absurd lies provide much-needed comic relief because they are so grossly overblown as to be almost impossible to believe. Usopp is the Straw Hats’ sniper, and while the rest of the crew may be able to perform superhuman feats, he usually just talks his way out of trouble. Fans revere God Usopp, despite the fact that he has better oratory skills than fighting ones.
