The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Rubicon 392 20th Anniversary Editions Bring Hardcore Factory Upgrades

Both models sport a lift and heavy kit, but there are subtle differences between the two.

The 2023 Chicago Auto Show has introduced what’s being hailed as the “most capable” Jeep Wrangler yet, with all-new 20th Anniversary editions of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid and Jeep Wrangler 392 performance SUVs.

The special edition modifications result in factory Wranglers with 14.2 inches of ground clearance, 37.1 inches of water fording depth, a 50-degree approach angle, 33-degree breakover angle, and a 43-degree departure angle for ultimate off-road fun with your choice of two powerful powertrains.

2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe 20th Anniversary

For the hybrid 4xe special edition, the new anniversary Rubicon model includes a redesigned seven-slot Jeep grille on the nose, new electric blue 20th anniversary hood decals and a rear swing gate plaque, a new shifter medallion, a triple hoop grille guard, winch-capable steel bumpers, an 83-piece bagged toolkit, a front off-road camera, steel rock sliders, gorilla glass windshield, red and black leather seating with a red leather-wrapped instrument panel, all-weather mats, and a half-inch suspension lift improving the water fording depth to 32 inches and raising ground clearance by 0.4-inches up to 11.2 inches.

That lift makes room for 17-x-7.5-inch beadlock capable wheels wrapped in 33-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires. Otherwise, the base 4xe it’s built on still offers 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque with 21 miles of all-electric driving range and up to 49 MPGe.

2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 20th Anniversary

The Wrangler Rubicon 392 20th Anniversary is a little bit different. It also gets new hood decals in a 392 bronze theme with a rear swing gate plaque, a triple hood grille guard, winch-capable steel bumpers, steel rock sliders, a front off-road camera, gorilla glass windshield, a new shifter medallion, red-and black leather seating with a red leather-wrapped instrument panel, and a new seven-slot grille design. While it also gets a half-inch lift, it’s not the same gear as on the Rubicon 4xe.

The Rubicon 392 differs with an onboard air compressor, an improvement of 0.9 inches of water fording, now up to 34.5 inches, 11.6 inches of ground clearance, and the Xtreme Recon Package. That includes 17-by-8-inch beadlock-capable wheels wrapped in 35-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, Mopar hinge-gate reinforcement, Mopar jack spacer, Mopar tire relocation kit, and wheel flare extensions.

Underneath it all, the 392 is still the fastest and most powerful Wrangler you can buy new. Its V-8 offers 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque with a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds, and it’ll run a quarter mile as quick as 13 seconds. Jeep expects both to go into production this quarter.

Level II Upfit

Limited to 150 units, a Rubicon 20th Anniversary Level II upfit by American Expedition Vehicles is also available on a first come, first serve basis. It brings 37-inch tires to the Wrangler “for the first time” with BFGoodrich all-terrains, a Warn VR EVO 10-S winch, AEV 17-inch wheels, AEV 2.5 inch suspension with Bilstein 5100 shocks, off-road lights, EX front bumper and rear bumper, a front skid plate, a tire carrier, steering damper, and Mopar performance wipers. The Level II upfit adds $22,987 to the 20th Anniversary Rubicon 4xe and $21,130 for the 20th Anniversary Rubicon 392.
