LIVERPOOL midfielder Naby Keita is expected to leave on a free transfer with his contract expiring in the summer and an extension looking unlikely, according to reports.
The Reds splashed out £52million to sign the Guinea international from German outfit RB Leipzig in 2018.
The midfielder has struggled to live up to that price tag during his spell at Anfield and has been plagued with injury issues.
Keita featured regularly during his debut season with Liverpool featuring 33 times across all competitions as Jurgen Klopp’s men won the Champions League in Madrid although he missed the final through injury.
Those fitness issues have seen the midfielder regularly on the sidelines and he hasn’t made more than 25 appearances in the Premier League in a single season for Liverpool.
Last season Liverpool made the Champions League final and won both the Carabao and FA Cups with Keita making 40 appearances across all competitions.
He scored four goals during that campaign but has found game time limited again this season and has only started two Premier League matches.
Sky Germany are reporting Keita’s time at Anfield could be coming to an end with a contract extension looking unlikely.
The report says there is plenty of interest from clubs to sign Keita on a free and a return to the Bundesliga is a possibility.
Keita isn’t the only player that could be departing Anfield this summer as the club look to revamp their midfield.
Former England internationals Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner both look likely to depart with their contracts expiring at the end of the season.
As part of a summer revamp, the Reds have been linked with a move for England ace Jude Bellingham.
It’s been a season to forget so far for Liverpool, with the Anfield side currently 10th in the table.
