Liverpool sit 10th in the Premier League and are out of both domestic cups with Real Madrid to come in the Champions League – so how can they turn their season around?

Jurgen Klopp needs to turn things around quickly at Liverpool if they are to salvage their season – and he could do just that in four simple steps.

The formerly enthusiastic boss looks a shadow of his former self with things going from bad to worse on the pitch and four league games going by without a win.

Although easier said than done, Daily Star Sport have taken a look at four things that need to be rectified if Liverpool are to get back on top.

Start faster

Although Klopp might not want to admit it, Liverpool’s slow starts have cost them dearly, as their success in recent years often stemmed from taking early leads and adding to them. Now they are invariably conceding first – seemingly due to a lack of focus.

Despite the frustrated former Borussia Dortmund boss initially refusing to answer a question on that very topic, he spoke about going 2-0 down early against Wolves when asked by another journalist.

He said: “You can criticise, you can judge us you can say whatever you want and you are probably right, I have nothing to say against that because these 12 minutes are not allowed.”

Nurture new stars

With the absence of Sadio Mane a glaring one with Liverpool sitting 10th in the table, the focus has to be on guiding Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo.

Nunez has looked lively but often hopeless in front of goal since his £85million move from Benfica, while Gakpo is yet to impress after joining from PSV for £37m in January.

It is up to Klopp to find a path to success for the two new forwards, with lack of investment provided by the board in attacking areas no longer an excuse.

Liverpool’s poor form has not been aided by a string of high profile injuries, with Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Ibrahima Konate, Roberto Firmino, Virgil van Dijk and Arthur Melo all currently sidelined.

The Merseysiders have more first-team players sidelined than the Premier League average, so managing game time on their respective returns will be vital.

With Liverpool out of both domestic cups and 11 points behind the top four, their Champions league round of 16 tie against Real Madrid could define their season.

When Klopp guided Liverpool to Champions League and Premier League glory the club had a feel good factor that embraced fans and players alike.

The mood has turned sour in recent weeks with Klopp lashing out at journalists and failing to find positives in recent performances.

Using a combination of the above steps will help put smiles back on faces, but until the manager is happy again, it’s hard to see Liverpool climbing up the table.
