Questions have been raised about the long-term future of Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid recently. The club had made a glorious start to the season but have stumbled in recent times. Fatigue, injuries and an overall lack of depth seem to have taken its toll on the team, as they now find themselves five points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race and also lost the Spanish Super Cup final against them.
Of course, it must be pointed out that we are not even halfway into the season and it is way too early to come to any conclusions. There were bumps on the road last season as well, but ultimately, the club were able to win a La Liga and Champions League double. Patience is a virtue.
But if things don’t improve, then it is not hard to see Real Madrid making a change in the managerial hot seat at the end of the season.
In that scenario, a lot of fans would want to see Zinedine Zidane make a return to the club for a third stint as manager. He was expected to get the France national team job after the World Cup but Didier Deschamps has extended his contract. But there is some bad news for Real Madrid as well.
Real Madrid have suffered Zidane return blow
As reported by RMC Sport, the relationship remains frosty today between Zidane and Florentino Perez. Nothing should be ruled out, but a return to Real Madrid is highly unlikely.
Thus, it looks like Zidane returning for a third spell as Real Madrid manager is unlikely. And the Frenchman is not expected to have any lack of other suitors.
Of course, you should never say never in football, especially since we have already seen Zidane return as Real Madrid manager in the past, only 10 months after stepping down in the summer of 2018.
