We know Jason Statham as a ready to fight actor who doesn’t turn his hand around for an action movie more or less. Operation Fortune (2022) is right up that street again: this time the ‘Expendable’ plays an M16 agent, and the film is officially in Dutch cinemas from today.
Arms trade
Statham plays Orson Fortune, the title character, who is recruited by an intelligence agency to counter a world-threatening plot. Hugh Grant was already the ‘bad guy’ Paddington 2 (2017) and is now in the new film by Guy Ritchie (Snatch., The Gentlemen): he plays a very rich arms dealer who hands off bloody weapon technology to the highest bidder. Statham is joined in his race against time by CIA agent Sarah Fidel (Aubrey Plaza) and Hollywood star Danny Francesco (Josh Hartnett).
Delay
Operation Fortune is one of many films whose release has been delayed over the past three years, but this time not due to the corona crisis. The action film was first planned for early 2022, but after the release was pushed forward to a date two months later, it would eventually take a full year before the film can finally be seen.

Gangsters from Ukraine
It was rumored at the time that the delay had to do with the assassins Statham had to face, as they are of Ukrainian descent (which is said to be of very minor importance to the plot in the end). This is sensitive with the war in Ukraine, although it only ignited after the initial release date (in January 2022).
International intelligence agency Five Eyes recruits MI6 agent Orson Fortune (Jason Statham) to prevent the sale of a deadly new weapon technology that threatens to disrupt global order.
From today in the cinema
It is quite possible that you have already seen Operation Fortune, because several (Pathé) cinemas had planned the necessary previews at the beginning of this year. As of today, the release is official and you can drop by for an evening of action entertainment.
