‘He almost took his head off!’: Kyle Walker leaves fans in stitches after launching a throw-in straight at Bernardo Silva during Man City’s win over Chelsea… as they ask what his team-mate did to ‘upset’ him.
Fans have been left in stitches after Kyle Walker almost took out his own team-mate Bernardo Silva with a throw-in during Manchester City’s 1-0 win at Chelsea on Thursday.
The incident occurred in the 35th minute when City had a throw on the right flank inside the Chelsea half, with Walker looking for someone to play the ball to.
After hesitating for a few seconds, he quickly turned to his left and launched the ball back towards the halfway line. Yet Silva was only a handful of yards away from him, and with the ball coming at head height, the Portuguese midfielder had to quickly duck out the way to avoid being smacked in the face.
Fortunately for him, he managed to avoid being hit, with the ball falling to Kai Havertz who started a Chelsea counter-attack. Supporters saw the funny side of the bizarre incident, but could scarcely believe what they had just seen.
‘Anyone else see that Kyle Walker throw in? Almost took Silva’s head off,’ one fan tweeted.
‘This is unbelievable from Walker, why throw it that hard?’ another supporter added.
With Silva narrowly avoiding a potentially painful blow to the face, fans also joked that he must have done something to upset Walker.
‘What did Bernardo Silva do to upset Kyle Walker?’ one tweet read.
Walker had not started any of City’s previous three matches after returning from the World Cup.
One fan put forward an idea of what the 32-year-old might have been doing with his time off.
‘By evidence of this throw in, Kyle Walker has been working out… a lot,’ they wrote.
Walker did not get much longer to make it up to Silva as he was hauled off at half time by Pep Guardiola after a below-par first half showing from City.
Silva was also substituted on the hour mark, and his replacement Riyad Mahrez went on to score the winning goal as City picked up a crucial three points at Stamford Bridge.
