Liverpool’s winter transfer addition Cody Gakpo is expected to make his debut for the club in the FA Cup against Wolves after being given the all-clear to play.
New Liverpool signing Cody Gakpo is expected to make his debut for the club in the upcoming FA Cup third round tie against Wolves on Saturday.
Gakpo agreed to sign for Liverpool just after Christmas, but the Dutch transfer window did not open until January 3. Moreover, he had to wait until all of the official paperwork was signed and rubber-stamped, including his work permit.
That is now the case, and James Pearce of The Athletic states that with everything sorted, Gakpo is in line to play against Wolves.
“With his work permit secured and registration documents complete, Cody Gakpo can now train with his new team-mates and is expected to make his debut v Wolves in the FA Cup on Saturday,” said Pearce on Twitter.

Liverpool fans will need some cheering up after losing 3-1 to Brentford in a horrendous performance from Jürgen Klopp’s side, and seeing Gakpo make his debut will give fans some form of excitement. It will also be a blessed relief for the manager, in the continued absence of both Diogo Jota and Luis Díaz.
Gakpo was one of the Netherlands’ star performers at the World Cup in Qatar, in which he scored three goals in the group stages, as Louis van Gaal’s side reached the quarter-final.
Gakpo scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists for PSV Eindhoven in the opening months of the season.
