Leonardo DiCaprio, the Oscar-winning actor and environmentalist who spends his time saving tigers, protecting oceans and dating models, has a new cause: helping Ecuadorian farmers.
DiCaprio by investing “mid-six figures” in Runa, a natural energy drink company, which uses the Amazonian guayusa leaves in its drinks, according to sources.
“It’s a sizable investment that can mean multimillions for the local communities in Ecuador in just a few years if the brand were to have a major buyout or conduct another major investment round,” says one beverage industry analyst.
Clients for the drink include: Sofia Vergara, Olivia Wilde and Kristen Bell
DiCaprio will donate “a substantial portion” of his shares to communities that farm guayusa leaves so they are shareholders in the brand. Channing Tatum is already an investor in Runa. Marlon Wayans and actor/comedian Adam Rodriguez (“CSI Miami”) are also investors with DiCaprio in this round.
