‘He is unique’: Jamie Carragher says Liverpool have a truly ‘special’ talent in their ranks

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has described Reds ace Trent Alexander-Arnold as a “special, special talent”.

The Anfield icon, speaking on Sky Sports, was full of praise for the 24-year-old after Liverpool beat Leicester on Friday.

Liverpool's Alexander-Arnold is among football's most polarising players, giving Klopp more good than bad in win over Milan

Carragher named Alexander-Arnold as his man of the match in the Reds’ 2-1 win against the 2016 Premier League champions.

The Anfield academy graduate regularly got the better of Harvey Barnes in one-on-ones.

Alexander-Arnold also provided the low cross for the first of Wout Faes’ two own goals.

He improved as the game went on, following a tricky start when he got caught out of position for Leicester’s opener.

Alexander-Arnold’s defensive capabilities have been questioned at times, and the player himself admits he “could have done better” at times.

‘A playmaker from full-back’

Nonetheless, Carragher believes the Liverpool ace is already a “unique” and talented player, and he can still get better.

“What you have to remember with Alexander-Arnold is he is unique,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“He was never a full-back as a kid, and he’s ended up going there because of his footballing ability.

“He was a midfield player and a special midfield player coming through.

“But we know now that the full-back position has evolved and you still have to be able to defend, but he is a playmaker from full-back.

“He is never going to change that. He’s never going to be the best defender in the world but he can improve and get better. That’s what he did against Leicester.

“Also, we shouldn’t forget how young he is and what he has already achieved in the game.

“If he doesn’t go on to do anything else in the game, which he will, he has still won everything you can win at club level.

“There is still so much there that he can improve on but he is a special, special talent.”Alexander-Arnold can and will improve – TBR View

Trent Alexander-Arnold responds to criticism regarding lack of form for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, saying 'people don't understand'

Carragher is spot on. Alexander-Arnold has been around for quite a while and has won so much that it’s easy to forget he’s just 24.

The key thing is he acknowledges he has some aspects of his game he needs and wants to improve.

Players can keep improving and adapting throughout their career, so it’ll be good to see how his game develops in the coming years.
