Sarah Whaley is a 96-year-old woman whose life is coming to a sad end. She spends his last minutes with a cat named Trooper. In 2014, she found this cat on her property by accident. The grandson of Mrs. Whaley found him. When they heard a meow coming from the basement, it was a normal afternoon.
They were shocked when they looked to see what it was. It was a lost little kitten that ended up with this great family by chance. The kitten wasn’t even a month old yet. They tried to find the baby’s mother, but were unsuccessful. So that the little kitten could live, they had to bring it along. Its grandmother Sarah lived in Florida, so they took it there.
“My grandma was a part of our household for 18 years.” Hackney added. ,,When me and my sisters were young, she moved here to take care of us. She didn’t leave. She was a very important member of our family. She was a leader.”
Whaley loved her grandchildren, but she also loved animals, and cats were her favorite. Hackney said: ,,My grandmother would give her a bottle, sit with her, and tell her how sweet and loving she was.” “Trooper is the kind of cat that lives inside a person, and my grandmother was definitely that person.”
No one realized how unique the relationship was between a cat and an elderly lady until the woman became sick and everyone saw how much the cat meant to her. There was no chance of a normal friendship or love between a person and an animal. Tooper the cat brought Mrs. Whaley’s things when she was too old to get out of bed. He gave the old woman everything he found on the floor. He always slept in her bed, too.
“As her illness got worse, he kept bringing her more and more things.” Hackney’s grandson said ,,I would go into my brother’s room, grab his socks, and drag them down to the floor.”
“Whaley would sometimes have panic attacks, and Trooper would rush to help her feel better. Trooper ran over to her, jumped on the bed, and started stroking and touching her, which made her feel better. He cared so much about my grandmother, and it showed in the way he looked at her when she was sick.” said Hackney.
,,When I saw the pain in her eyes, my heart broke.” When Whaley passed away in March, just a few days before her 97th birthday, Trooper was very sad.
,,She didn’t want to be near my grandmother’s body, so I took her there to show her that my grandmother wouldn’t come back. If they don’t know, they’ll come looking for them, and I wanted them to know that our grandmother isn’t here anymore. He ran away, though, and went to sleep under my parents bed.
She stopped eating after they took my grandmothers body away. She’s not a very loud cat, but she kept crying and running around the house. Hackney says that Trooper is doing much better now, but he still goes into Whaley’s room and throws socks and other things on the floor. Hackney said: ,,You can tell he really misses his grandmother.”
The internet is full of this really sad and moving story. It’s nice to see how careful and sensitive an animal can be. Trooper has a big heart, and Ms. Whaley will always be a hole in his life.
