Gigi Hadid just gave some rare insight into how she co-parents her daughter, Khai, with her ex, Zayn Malik.
Hadid opened up about raising her two-year-old daughter in an interview with The Sunday Times, which was published on March 5. “She has already given me so much,” Hadid said, per People. “I always wanted to be a mom, but I was never obsessive about it or [thought that] I was put on this Earth to be a mom.”
The 27-year-old model added, “I’ve always been quite organized, so having Khai at the time that I did was a blessing. I’m so glad to be a young mom.”
Regarding her relationship with Malik, Hadid says their co-parenting philosophy is all about “keeping the importance of the child’s happiness at the forefront.” Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik dated on and off for about six years, splitting just over a year after welcoming their daughter on September 23, 2020.
“You have a long life alongside this person,” Hadid said. “That she can be with both parents makes me very happy.” When it comes to her busy work schedule, Hadid notes that she tries to schedule her modeling jobs and other business-related trips “when Khai is with her dad.”
Hadid also shared that Khai has inherited “little bits” of her dad’s British upbringing. “She’s clearly a child who was grown in my stomach eating a lot of British food—breakfast, beans, curries. And she still eats like that,” she said. “She even says some words with a little [English] accent, which I love.”
Following her split from Malik in 2021, Hadid was briefly linked with 48-year-old actor Leonardo DiCaprio after the pair were spotted at an NYFW after-party in September 2022. However, a source later told Page Six that their lifestyles didn’t mesh. “Gigi doesn’t have the energy to run after DiCaprio,” the source said in December. “His routine is too much for her.”
