A video shows a hungry elephant rummaging through pick-up trucks in search of food. The incident took place along a stretch of road in the Khao Yai National Park in Thailand on December 9. Drivers and passengers stopped their vehicles and remained still to avoid disturbing the creature.
One of the men in a truck said, “I pray that they don’t attack the car… Once he gets food he will leave.” The elephant did not attack the truck, but instead picked up inedible items, including a plastic bottle, which it then spat out.
The elephant continued its search for food, throwing large containers onto the ground before finding uncooked rice, which it stuffed into its mouth.
The video shows the elephant rifling through a black pick-up truck using its trunk. A man inside the truck asks other passengers whether they should drive away as the animal approaches their vehicle. One of the women inside disagrees and urges people to stay, with the elephant making its way over to their vehicle to rummage at the back of their truck. The couple tells their two children sitting in the back of the truck to keep quiet to avoid an attack from the elephant.
Fortunately, the elephant does not cause any harm, and the family is able to drive away safely.
The video shows a close-up of the elephant as it probes the vehicle.
