Here is the heartbreaking moment a mother elephant desperately tried to remove her baby from a well after spending 11 hours by her side. The adamant mother wouldn’t leave her calf and attempted to carry her priceless child to safety by first using her trunk and then her feet.
The young elephant remained stuck from 9 p.m. until 8 a.m the following morning, but sadly the panicked mother elephant made matters worse by unintentionally shoving additional muck into the well and nearly suffocating the infant.
Fortunately, though, the little elephant was eventually set free when nearby residents of Iɴᴅɪᴀ’s Chatra area came to the sᴄᴇɴᴇ after hearing the animal’s calls for help. The mother was discouraged by the kind locals, who utilized the opportunity to clear away some of the soil that was preventing her from grabbing the calf.
They cut off a few banana trucks and placed them ᴄʟᴏsᴇ to the well so that the mother elephant walked away for a while, according to Jitendra Tiwari, who both aided with the rescue and videotaped the event.
The strategy succeeded, and they took advantage of the extra time to clear the sand mound that had accumulated at the well and was impeding the mother’s ability to save the child.
The mother then yanked the infant out by tightly encircling her slippery, mud-covered body with her trunk. Later, the pair could be seen joyfully walking side by side while tying their trunks together.
