At this moment, an unexpected visitor arrived during dinner and stole the main course. Unaware that a crocodile was watching them from the Olifants River’s shallows in Sᴏᴜᴛʜ Aғʀɪᴄᴀ, a pack of wild dogs had just ᴋɪʟʟed and eaten their second impala after having previously devoured their first.
And as the canines began to tear at the carcass, the crocodile chose the ideal time to pounce and easily caught the impala. The astonished canines watched helplessly as it retreated back into the river to finish its meal in peace.
Christa Niederer, a photographer, observed the play of the ravenous reptile. She claimed there was a brief standoff while the dogs regarded the scaly predator and the impala carcass was left in the area between them. The crocodile, however, snatched up the dogs’ catch before they could recover it.
This enormous fat crocodile had been lying below water level with just its eyes protruding from the water and patiently observing the activities on the sandbank, Ms. Niederer recalled how the stand-off came about. It moved ᴄʟᴏsᴇr as the dogs pushed the cadaver before suddenly and swiftly lunging onto the sandbank.
Let’s take a look at this moment:
