Rescue dogs arrive at Morristown Airport on way to their new homes

Five rescue dogs arrived in New Jersey on Saturday en route to their eventual forever homes, thanks to the efforts of volunteers of Pet ResQ Inc. based in Tenafly.

The dogs, all mothers, were flown in from Ohio to Morristown Airport in honor of Mother’s Day.

Robyn Urman, the founding organizer, said the goal of her efforts is to raise awareness about puppy mills.

“These poor things, they live in cages,” she said. “They breed after breed after breed. They never get bathed. They never get touched by humans.”

Morristown, NJ - May 6, 2023 - Rose Skuches, 6, of Washington Township with one of five rescue dogs that were flown in from Ohio to Morristown Airport, where they were picked up by Pet ResQ Inc. from Tenafly. The dogs will be delivered to foster homes, where they will stay for up to three months for rehabilitation and then be eligible for adoption.

On average, the organization brings in 30 dogs a month, “which is a lot.”

“I’m a one-man band,” Urman said.

She said she takes in adults — those that are sick and aging.

The dogs are taken in by foster homes for at least two weeks “until they can decompress and we can evaluate their temperament,” Urman said.

“Then we get them groomed and spayed and then we put them up for adoption,” she continued. “It can take a day, it can take three months, and it depends on how well adjusted the dogs are.”

The organization follows a stringent adoption process that includes a home visit, its website says.
