Contrary to how they are sometimes depicted in the media, hippos are among the most ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀᴏᴜs animals in the world. Most animals are aware to avoid them because they are fierce and highly territorial beasts.
When a group of tourists noticed an elephant wading into the river, they prepared for the worst. The water horses were dwarfed by this “big-tusker” elephant, but there were more than 20 floating hippos. At first, it seemed like a stalemate. The elephant drank water and poured it across the backs of the hippos as they lazed in the river. The elephant then moved forward while flapping its ears.
The hippos avoided the gentle giant by making a path. One commentator found it fascinating how much respect the two animals had for one another. The hippos made room for the elephant as it moved gently through the water. It is understandable why this breathtaking video received nearly 6 million views. This brief video continues to captivate the imagination and inspire amazement in viewers nearly 15 years after it was shot.
The hippos allowed them plenty of room as they crossed the river, and the elephant did not even glance back despite the ʀɪsᴋ. The courageous animal started munching on the vegetation as soon as they reached the opposite side. Although hippopotami are potentially hazardous, this elephant showed an unrivaled sense of grace and force. The king of the jungle can only be one, and in this instance it was an elephant.
Let’s take a look at the video:
