The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Blade will release in 2024, with several well-known cast and crew members already confirmed for the project.
Marvel’s Blade is set to release September 6th, 2024 with a brand-new actor portraying Blade after the iconic performance by Wesley Snipes. The film’s plot remains a mystery, but since it’s the first time the character will be introduced into the MCU, there’s a good chance that it will act as his origin story. In the comics, Blade is what’s known as a Dhampir: a half-human, half-vampire hybrid that has vampire-like abilities but can survive in sunlight. In addition, he’s a vampire hunter who works with several of Marvel’s well-known heroes, even becoming an Avenger. Blade will likely keep his backstory very similar to the comics, and will follow Captain America: New World Order in theaters.
The first actor confirmed in Blade was Mahershala Ali, as the titular Blade. His voice was briefly featured in the post-credits scene for Eternals, where he spoke to Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman. Since Blade‘s initial announcement, Delroy Lindo, Aaron Pierre, and Mia Goth have all joined the cast. None of their specific roles have been announced, but the project is expected to begin filming in late spring, where more details about the film’s plot and characters will probably be revealed.
Mahershala Ali as Blade
As mentioned previously, Eric Brooks AKA Blade will be played by Mahershala Ali. In comparison to Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Mahershala Ali typically plays characters that are more complex and emotional. Ali’s most recent Marvel character was in Netflix’s Luke Cage, where he played Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes. As Cottonmouth, Ali played a sophisticated but unforgiving mobster who led the Stokes Crime Family.
Possibly Ali’s most famous role comes from 2016’s Moonlight, where he became the first Muslim actor to win an acting Oscar. He played Juan, the main character Chiron’s closest friend who acts almost as his mentor. Following Moonlight‘s release, Ali was boosted into stardom, where his abilities to play deeply emotional and believable characters resonated with audiences. His take on Blade is going to be very interesting to watch, when the film releases in 2024.
Mia Goth, Delroy Lindo, & Aaron Pierre
Shortly after Mahershala Ali was signed on as Blade, Delroy Lindo was cast in an unknown role. Lindo has been acting for decades, his first major role being in 1976’s Find The Lady. Originally trained as a theater actor, Lindo has played a wide variety of roles over his nearly five decades of on and off acting experience. After Lindo, Aaron Pierre was cast in another unannounced role. Aaron Pierre has recently starred in Old and will be the voice of Mufasa in the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King.
The most recent addition to the cast has been the announcement that Mia Goth will be joining the team. Mia Goth’s recent roles include slasher films X and Pearl, which should help her in the vampiric world of Blade. The film’s cast are all highly skilled and talented actors, and despite Blade‘s seemingly cursed production cycle, it remains one of the most highly anticipated MCU movies.
