Tom Cruise made a bold statement about working on a Hollywood set, but Mark Wahlberg wasn’t impressed with the comparison.
Tom Cruise has a relentless work ethic. As we’ll reveal in the following, rarely does the actor take days off, and that all stems from his passion of ‘living the dream’ and doing what he loves to do on a daily basis.
Despite his enthusiasm for film and the success that followed, there are some actors that have reservations about working alongside Tom Cruise. We’ll reveal one example of an A-lister that had a bumpy experience with Cruise.
In addition, we’ll take a closer look at what went down between Tom Cruise and Mark Wahlberg. After Cruise made a particular statement about what it is like to work on a film set, Wahlberg was not pleased with the comparison made by Cruise. Mark made quite the statement, and it may have factored into their working relationship.
Mark Wahlberg Isn’t The Only Actor That Spoke Out Against Tom Cruise
Via: DepositphotosWorking alongside Tom Cruise can be an unforgettable experience, that was especially the case for the Top Gun: Maverick cast, they had a major amount of praise for working with Cruise.
However, it hasn’t always been positive. Back in the ’90s, Brad Pitt didn’t have the fondest experience alongside Cruise, and they would never work together again. Pitt indicated that there was competition on set, and that their personalities are very different.
“You gotta understand, Tom and I are… we walk in different directions,” he explains. “He’s North Pole. I’m South. He’s coming at you with a handshake” Pitt leans forward – Pitt leans forward mimicking Cruise’s hyper-aggressive hello – “where I may bump into you, I may not, you know,” Pitt revealed.
Pitt would go on to mention that he never really had a real conversation with Cruise given that their might’ve been competition between the two actors during the shoot of Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles.
“I always thought there was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real conversation,” says Pitt. “It wasn’t nasty by any means, not at all. But it was just there and it bugged me a bit. But I’ll tell you, he catches a lot of shit because he’s on top, but he’s a good actor and he advances in the film. He did it. I mean, you have to respect that.”
Another actor we haven’t seen alongside Tom Cruise is Mark Wahlberg. Unlike Brad Pitt, he might’ve avoided Cruise for completely different reasons.
Mark Wahlberg Took Exception To Tom Cruise Comparing A Film Set To Afghanistan
InstarTom Cruise is deeply dedicated to his craft and was asked if working on certain Hollywood film sets felt like being away in Afghanistan. Given his relentless work ethic, Cruise did agree to the comparable. He said, “That’s what it feels like and certainly on this last movie it was brutal. it was brutal,” the actor replied.
Well, it seems as though Mark Wahlberg wasn’t impressed with the answer, and it might be the reason as to why the two never worked alongside one another. It seems like Wahlberg indirectly put Cruise on blast without naming names.
“For actors to sit there and talk about ‘Oh I went to SEAL training,’ and I slept on the — I don’t give a **** what you did. You don’t do what these guys did. For somebody to sit there and say my job was as difficult as somebody in the military’s. How dare you. While you sit in a makeup chair for two hours.”
The statement made the headlines, however, Mark would go back on his words saying that it wasn’t a dig at Tom Cruise.
“I didn’t know that it was Tom Cruise that said that. Somebody just mentioned that people are [making that comparison],” Wahlberg said.
“I love Tom Cruise. I have much respect for Tom Cruise, but I have just as much respect for military guys, so it’s just unfair for anybody to comment on that.”
Who really knows what happened there, but it likely all stems from Cruise’s work ethic.
Tom Cruise Has A Huge Amount Of Enthusiasm For Acting And Doesn’t Take Many Days Off
InstarAccording to Cruise, he’s living the dream with the way things turned out in his life. The actor would also reveal that he doesn’t believe in days off, given how much he loves what he does in the world of entertainment.
He said alongside NME, “Look, I’m fortunate, I’m lucky. I’ve spent my life on movie sets and travelling the world, which is what I always wanted to do; so this is not work – I’m living the dream.”
So perhaps his comments came out of a place of passion. It is evident, Cruise puts his all into everything he does, and that was very apparent most recently in Top Gun: Maverick. It is truly hard to match his intensity on a movie set. Some embrace it while others… not so muc
