Ryan Reynolds confirms another actor from the Fox X-Men Universe is coming back for the MCU’s Deadpool 3, this time with an X-Force return.
Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that another actor from the Deadpool franchise is coming back for the Marvel Cinematic Universe-set Deadpool 3, with an unexpected X-Force character making his return. Deadpool 3 is one of Marvel Studios’ most anticipated projects. The movie marks the first time that a character from the Fox Marvel Universe makes the jump to the MCU to lead their own project. The Deadpool 3 cast sees Reynolds continue as the title character, with him being joined by a returning Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
On Twitter, Reynolds confirmed Deadline‘s report that Deadpool 2 actor Rob Delaney will return as his character Peter in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3.
Delaney’s Peter served as comedic relief in Deadpool 2, with the character being a regular human — with no powers — who joined Deadpool’s X-Force team. Peter was killed during X-Force’s ridiculous death sequence, only to be brought back to life by Deadpool with the help of Cable’s time-traveling device. The character will likely play a part in the movie’s characteristic jokes but may not have a big role like some of the other returning characters.
What The Fox Marvel Franchise Returns Mean For Deadpool 3
Deadpool 3 is assembling an all-star cast, mixing newcomers to the franchise with fan-favorite actors from the two Deadpool movies produced by Fox. The list of returning stars includes franchise veterans Karan Soni as cab driver Dopinder, Leslie Uggams as Deadpool’s roommate Blind Al, Morena Baccarin as the anti-hero’s fiancée Vanessa, and Stefan Kapičić as X-Men member Colossus, as well as Fox X-Men icon Jackman back as a version of Wolverine different from the one that died in 2017’s Logan.
Deadpool 3 adds some talented newcomers to the franchise, with Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) cast in undisclosed roles. Deadpool 3 could also address a Logan storyline with Patrick Stewart and Jackman, as the Charles Xavier actor has teased a possible role in the MCU film, saying to ComicBook.com, “I’ve been told to standby.” Deadpool 3 is also rumored to see Reynolds’ Wade Wilson meet the Time Variance Authority and Owen Wilson’s Mobius from the Disney+ series Loki.
The Fox franchise returns in Deadpool 3 could point to the theories that Wade Wilson will come face-to-face with the TVA being true. Delaney coming back as Peter is a possible sign of that, as the character was brought back from the dead, just like the returning Vanessa, due to Deadpool messing up with timelines, something the TVA punishes severely. The character returns hint at Deadpool 3 spending at least some time in the Fox universe before the character’s rumored multiversal travel that should land Reynolds in the MCU, possibly alongside a number of Fox characters from the mutant’s previous movies, by the end of Deadpool 3.
